A club like celtic should have more than 3 strikers ! Said last night it highlights how bad our youth set up is with strikers , that we cannot promote someone with potential to see what he has

I don’t blame Ange for playing Kyogo, he’ll be wanting to play every minute possible. Looked more of a knock than anything, he’ll be fine for the final.

    Kyogo. A phenomenon
It’s all about survival until January now. That’s the reality. It’s not a pleasant reality either.

I trust the manager, and see genuine signs of improvement - but I do have concerns about guys being run in to the ground in the run up to a hellish schedule (as it is every Christmas)

It’s a bit of an Aussie mentality - * get on with it. I love it generally, but a lot of guys have been on fumes for the last month.

CELTIC manager Ange Postecoglou says he has no regrets about playing Kyogo against Real Betis, even though his star striker picked up a hamstring injury which could sideline him for weeks.

Postecoglou decided to put Kyogo on in the final fixture of Celtic’s Europa League campaign when Albian Ajeti also pulled up with a hamstring injury after half an hour of the match, even though his team were already eliminated from the competition.

The club are now awaiting news from a scan to determine how long the Japanese forward will be sidelined, but Postecoglou says that it would have been against his instincts to keep Kyogo on the bench.

“It’s frustrating,” Postecoglou said. “Those are the decisions you make as a manager. You probably have a sleepless night thinking about the different scenarios.

“But my whole ethos has always been that you go out there and you go for things. You never hold back.

“It has served me well up until now and I’ll continue to do that with the way I want my team to play and the decisions I make.

“It’s just my nature to be more aggressive than sometimes people think I need to be. But we will get our rewards because of that.”

Meanwhile, Postecoglou says that he doesn’t want a repeat of the Green Brigade’s silent protest against Bernard Higgins when Motherwell visit Celtic Park tomorrow.

The Celtic fans’ group refused to sing during the win over Betis in their latest stand against the prospective appointment of Higgins to a security role at the club, but Postecoglou says he would prefer it if the kept such demonstrations outwith the matches themselves.

“My hope and wish for it is that for 90 minutes we all come together as a football club,” he said. “Because that’s what special about this football club - that 90 minutes, anyone who plays in that atmosphere knows it’s so special.

“So from my point of view I much prefer it when the crowd are right behind the boys. They both feed off each other’s energy. Hopefully that returns.”

Ange Postecoglou had sleepless nights over his Kyogo gamble – but he’s told critics they are dreaming if they think he’ll ever ditch his attacking outlook.

The Celtic boss has copped flak after the Japanese ace got crocked in Thursday’s Euro dead rubber win against Real Betis having come off the bench.

Kyogo could be out of the Hoops crucial festive campaign and Postecoglou admitted he agonised over the decision to involve the frontman.

The move backfired when stand-in Albian Ajeti pulled up and the star man was sent on with an hour to go in the 3-2 victory over the La Liga big guns.

Postecoglou was left counting the cost for going all out to win the clash as Kyogo joined front men Jota and Gio Giokoumakis on the treatment table ahead of next weekend’s Premier Sports Cup Final.

But the Parkhead gaffer insisted he won’t change his philosophy.

He said: “Yeah, it’s frustrating. Those are the decisions you make as a manager.

Postecoglou’s squad is under severe pressure going in to a vital run of seven games in 23 days, with Motherwell up tomorrow, the Cup Final next Sunday and an Old Firm showdown to go in to the winter break.

The Aussie said: “It’s challenging, no doubt. Particularly for us as a team who are not yet robust enough as a squad.

“We don’t have the experienced bodies to cope with this kind of fixturing, particularly with the games we have got.

“But we will work our way through it, showing the same resilience we showed against Betis, and hopefully in January we get some reinforcements in.”

Postecoglou wants his squad to dig deep – and he’s urged the fans to roar on his injury-hit side.

The Green Brigade supporters group are planning another silent protest at Parkhead tomorrow in their fight to block the appointment of top cop Bernard Higgins in a security role.

But Postecoglou is hoping the punters can park the dispute and bring the noise against the Steelmen.

He said: “My hope and wish for it is that for 90 minutes we all come together as a football club. Because that’s what special about this football club - that 90 minutes, anyone who plays in that atmosphere knows it’s so special.

“So from my point of view I much prefer it when the crowd are right behind the boys. They both feed off each other’s energy. Hopefully that returns.”

Postecoglou’s fringe men stepped up against Betis and the manager insisted it was a confidence boosting night despite the injury woe.

He said: “I said to the boys ‘just go out and play this game as a Celtic team would in a European tie.’

“You could see what it means. They weren’t lying down, they went for us at the end. They wanted to win the game too. It ended up being a fantastic European fixture.

“It was great for our guys, a great experience for them. But also getting the rewards if you put in the hard work.”

Celtic had already crashed in to the new-look Europa Conference League, where they could run in to sides such as Spurs, Slavia Prague and Partizan Belgrade.

Postecoglou insisted the Betis win was still a memorable night and it helped maintain momentum – with Celts losing just once in their last 14 games in all competitions.

He said: “Absolutely. I don’t dismiss it when you win a European game. We have won three in this group against some tough opposition.

“Real Betis beat Barcelona last weekend and anyone who watched this match would see how much they wanted to win it. They threw everything at us.

“It’s a good sign for us. Apart from our football, there was desire and character in the team to be successful and create some special moments. Nights like this help that.

“There is a real resilience within this group. Maybe that got questioned earlier in the year but you can see now that whatever’s thrown at them, they are finding ways to win games of football.”

I struggle to remember a time in recent history where the Celtic manager had so little in the way of options up front. Even if Hooper, Stokes, Samaras and * Miku were all injured, Lennon could at least bring on Tony Watt or put Commons on up front.

It was a downright stupid decision to put Kyogo on last night and as much as I like Ange he is a stubborn hoor so he will just keep doing things the rest of us might think is nuts. It is what it is. He is even telling us his mistakes before he makes them. My training regime is too tough with the amount of games but I ain't changing it is another one. One thing I would say though is that we should have the squad to get through these next few games. The teams we are playing have tough schedules too and far smaller and weaker squads. Kyogo and Jota back for the 2nd January showdown. Let's get the job done this month.

Literally the past 5 years we've only had 2 or 3 options. We've played Rogic, Forrest, Sinclair, Johnston and Christie upfront in the past few seasons. Crazy tbh

Love the guy, but doubling down on it is dumb, almost as dumb as actually playing Kyogo.

We legit have no fit Strikers for Sunday, and there's a real chance we have no fit strikers for the cup final either, it was a dumb decision in a nothing game.

Any way he wants to spin it, majority of us on this thread who have Celtic on our mind 24/7 have said that Kyogo should not have been brought on - end of story. Having lost to Betis 4-3 in Spain Ange was determined to beat them at home.

No doubt but its even deeper than that. Postecoglou is a very driven and selfish manager. Make no mistake he wants to be noticed in Europe and beating Betis, almost beating Leverkusen away would not have done his stocks any harm. Imagine if he did pull off 2 wins against Betis and one against Leverkusen- which he almost did and did it with style..

Wouldn't call the 2nd string team of unused subs and youths him being determined to beat them. He had no strikers so put a striker on. He never thought more into it than that.
