Your man will get in serious trouble for that. I'd go in as a COMPLETELY injured party. Play it as an act of discrimination. Put it this way, imagine if he'd asked someone of middle-Eastern descent to use an Anglo-Saxon name. He'd be for the high jump. Let us know how it progresses.

    Complain to the area manager.

You could take them to a tribunal if you lost your job.

Just dont do anything silly or they will sack you and you wont have a leg to stand on.

    Simple answer is ,

    1. You take up marcybhoy's earlier advice.
    2. You ask your boss to state his policy for the record (if it's not in your agreed term's and conditions)
3 You ask your boss if he ban people who use discriminatory language (i.e customers)
    4. If his actions deviate in anyway from his policy..record it.
    5. Record everything..to the letter.
    6. F*ck them and dig in. We are all here for you.

I seriously had to check the date there and make sure it wasn't the 1st April...

Are these guy's serious? Any manager asking you to do that is way outta line. As already said; they should be barring these customers from the store and back you to the hilt. And as for asking you to wear a name badge with the name "William" on it (absolutely nothing wrong with the name William, let's make that clear), is someone having a laugh at your expense?

Wouldn't suggest you do this at the moment, but you could have grounds for constructive dismissal on the grounds of, well take your pick Bullying, Victimisation, Discrimination...

    Absolute JOKE.

Sounds like a breach of the Race Relations Act (ethnicity) and the Religious Belief Regulations. It would also constitute Harrasment, both discriminatory and plain.

Bring a grievance under your Harrasment Policy - you can get it from your HR dept.

Oops yes, I'm an employment lawyer............here was me telling everyone I was a Papal Guard. Ah well.
