BOTB's Favourites Song Thread .

It was possibly coming but given the amount of top ten hits I still had to choose from, about 8, I can't say it was guaranteed tbh Taz. I can say View to a Kill would have been used, had I gotten past this round, as you canny have a James Bond soundtrack and not use that at some point if possible.
Forget how huge a band they had been back then and the impact they and other bands had on music from the 80's onwards.

8 sets of votes in , truly remarkable !

Both ties have a gap between votes but certainly not insurmountable for both ties .

 

Results are virtually in ! this has went so well in submitting and voting , first class .

One tie , there is a clear winner and with 1 vote left to cast on it it wont change the winner . Alas the fightback needed never came for the loser . ( pm'd the voter and hopefully they cast soon to keep the scores 100% )

The other tie ...... the fightback certainly did happen , a late surge of votes drew the tie level .. we have a draw !

Obviously they both have 5 1's and 5 2's so cant be separated that way , would the fairest way to decide a semi final vote be to play a quickfire 1 song play off ( aware there potentially be 10 voters and tie again ) . or quickfire first 7 voters to decide it ? or go through all the votes of previous rounds counting only 1 's be fairer .

never thought about that Marie and a very good point . From a personal point I think i would be demented if I had to trawl all through those notes again but if I have to ..

Agree with Marie. 1 song play off, but would also only use a reduced Jury of either 3 or 5 so there cannot be a tie. (these can be drawn by random or just first 3 or 5 (whichever you choose) Jury votes recieved count.

 

Semi - Final Results .

Nail biting stuff as the votes came in thick and fast , as I posted yesterday at that time one tie sat at 5-2 and the other 4-2
but there was enough votes to be cast that either tie could be won or lost and as it happened 1 drew .

This tie sat at 5-2 and although claiming another point Crowded House stretched their lead to win .
So we bid farewell to Fontaine who plotted his way through the competition meticiously ( spelling )
Well aware he was holding back his Big Hits for the later rounds ( a point mentioned by voters in voting )
he brought out the big guns for the semi - final .. alas Crowded house did also and prevailed .

and now we must decide how to separate the drawn tie .

 

Just total their points from previous rounds and if still same then one more tie break video.

 

So , yes think we will go with a one song play off to decide the vacant final place .
Also think we will use the first 7 vote responders to settle the score , after the songs are posted the first 7 votes will be used to decide the finalists , I will of course post the voter and time sent to avoid any vilany on my part .

Wont be tonight though the Scotia hoose is going out for the first time in 22 months !! . Local boolin club having their first cabaret night since Hogmonay 2019 ( was there ) and invited guests for the first time since then .

If the owners of Depeche Mode and The Stranglers wish they can send over their choice of song they believe will get them through , no songs already used , but the finalists may use a previous song once in the final .

 

Absolutely fine going out to Crowded House. Those two songs are class- I even predicted them the moment I saw the format.

Unfortunately the Foo Fighters didn't kick on until their 2nd album so the hands were tied there.

Well done Crowded House.

 

With 1 vote remaining ... the magic 4 has been reached ! many thanks to the voters !!

Alas there would be no late fight back this time for The Stranglers , at one stage the vote stood at 2-2 but 2 more votes for Depeche Mode was enough to see them claim the final spot to face Crowded House in the final .

Starting the competition in fine style and safely making the last 8 saw The Stranglers claim the scalp of Cat Stevens and secure a place in the semi - final . A titanic battle with Depeche Mode resulted in a tie , a play off was called for to to separate them and Depeche Mode made the final with a vote to spare and congratulations to them .

Alas we have to say farewell to Bagforlife , an excellent competition and she pushed it all the way and can hold her head high ! .


So we have an epic final in the making .. Crowded House V Depeche Mode !! .

The final will consist of 3 of their favourite songs from the finalists , just 3 songs that will claim the ..
Battle of the Band's crown of 2021 , one of your songs can be one you have previously used and sent to me via PM as usual at your convenience , thank you both and good luck in the final ! .
