FAO mods. I would have sent a pm to Iontach about this but he is offline at the moment so i'm doing it in a thread.

The McGeady rumour, however much we don't like it, is a big story in the UK wide Sun newspaper which has 3m daily readers. If this doesn't count as a transfer rumour then i don't know what does. If a rumour has a semi credible source ie a paper then we should be allowed to discuss it. Just because we don't want to hear it doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss it and i think the thread should be reopened.

Cheers, pleese delete this thread, SV.

lol sorry lads but i disagree. yes, its a legitimate source. but its an awful rumour. theres only one thing to say about it...its pure *, made up by The Sun to fill up a room left on the page about 5mins before it was sent to the printers.

Where do you draw the line then? If you judge a legitimate rumour to be one taken from the national press, then, regardless of how daft it may be, it should be allowed to run. Looking at it objectively, if you close down rumours with a source, you are effectively dictating the flow of information to a LOT of people. I know it's a * rumour, but you have to set a precedent.

The locking of threads in this section has become farcical i must admit. It's a legitimate 'rumour' and it was a topic of discussion that obviously interested the board hence the 2 pages in a short space of time.

Disregard the rumour as nonsense but you can't just remove the vehicle for discussion just because it's unfavourable. This is a discussion board after all.

100% agree there, weather or not we think its bullshit its still the script and TBH is it that hard to believe that an EPL club has the outright cheek to offer a stupidly low amount of money for an SPL top player who has just committed himself to a club for 5 years?

You cant just close a thread cause somone does not like it.

It has a source, a better source than most. a national newspaper.

its no going to happen, like most roumers on here with a source, but why close it.

Do you have a source for this allegation about the story?

The way I thought about it was this:

Imagine if the internet had been around 20 years ago. Mo Johnston has agreed to join Celtic and has appeared in public with the manager to verify it. Someone may have on the heard that he in fact will join the huns instead. Now as ridiculous as it would've sounded, had the individual produced a source, the story would've run on the forum, UNLESS someone with the authority decided off their back that the story was not credible and closed it down. We all know what happened there and it's not impossible for it to happen again. Jarni moved to Coventry and then Madrid a few days after. David Unsworth did the same.

Ill open up the other thread.

They are in it to make money. Right now the sports press over there will make up lies for your bread and butter. Guess what.. This does not happen elsewhere and why? Because people wouldnt accept it.
They will write any bullshit rumor they feel like and you guys allow them and give them credibility by discussing it and buying their papers. And they continue the trend.

If you give them no credibility, others will give them no credibility and their sales decline then they will stop this b/s.

The Sun is a tabloid. End of.
