When it's a loan to buy another club cant just pop in and pay extra and hijack the already agreed and signed off deal. A loan to buy is basically a buy.

It’s not. It’s an agreed price at the end of the loan that the seller must accept, but it does not exclude other clubs from making an offer.

At best you could maybe try and get some sort of clause to say the selling club won’t sell within a certain short period but to be honest I can’t see why any club would give up that right for anything more than a week or so.

You might be getting mixed up with loan obligation to buy.

So that's two centre backs in a week who have supposedly left training to talk to us and are now back training.

    Bodes well.

I would imagine Calmac, Eddy, James, Jullien and Ajeti are the only ones who do. Possibly Christie and Ajer.

Reports in Russia claim that Starfelt has left Rubin Kazan training to return to Sweden ahead of the £4million deal being rubber stamped.

From the latest article the daily record have just put up. Haven't seen any russian reports saying the above. I know he supposedly missed training yesterday but was back today

Can't see him being on 20..

AEK don't pay anywhere near what we do on wages..

I reckon he'll be on closer to half. Think I read the fee wasn't as much as 5 and no all upfront either..

Most reports claim that last year it was only CalMac and Brown. Then there was obviously the loanees.

Edouard, Jullien and Forrest maybe. Christie and Ajer no way for the deals they signed. Ajeti probably not either. Certain not most of the team.

Barkas is on 12k a week, was reported early on.

Think we paid 3.2 million up front, no chance have the Add ons been met either.

According to aek salary s the boy nelson olivieria from Portugal is on 31k a week and the Bosnia and herz defender Vranjes on 22k a week , don’t think theyd be much different from our salary bill, no sure how accurate that is right enough

…and it’s probably the same reason that many national sides do use it now: it can be good for short-to-mid term results when faced with certain limitations, but it isn’t generally a system that is flexible enough to sustain a long-term vision. With national sides, you’re stuck with having to get the best out of a squad you barely see all year, and which you can’t generally change up too much in terms of personnel. There isn’t the same focus on replicating a brand or philosophy that there is at most top clubs.

So, like you say, not too many forward-thinking club managers use it, except those looking to fight relegation and/or punch above their weight until they can afford squad improvements (Nuno’s Wolves, for instance) - again, though, that’s about the short-term.

I would bet that McGregor and Edouard are on more, for starters.

Mcgregor has had what...2 contracts out us now?

Brown was always rumoured to be on £35k..only one closest to that in recent times has been Sinclair then going back would be Joe Ledley. He was high too.

Brown at one stage had a contract that stated he'd get same as highest paid in team, but had that cut sequentially in contract renewals, if I remember correctly. Pretty sure he was on £35k pw at one stage, which was our absolute cap - could be wrong though. Pretty sure that the most we CAN pay now is £30k, but not sure anyone is on that at present.

Offering such 'low' highest rates might keep the Scottish lads, if they're commited to the club, but top class talent (Tierney etc) and foreign lads (Eddy) will move to EPL teams where that's bog standard squad money, and they'll get way more
