Charlie Wyke (Sunderland)

Originally I was up fro signing him as a 3rd choice/ something different up front.

But I really don’t see how he fits in with an Ange style team, don’t think we should be signing him anymore.

 

Had a wee peek at done Sunderland boards to see what they've been saying about him.

Not encouraging at all.

There was even one thread dedicated to calling for him to be sacked. Created out of anger at a game in January where it took him 47 minutes to get his FIRST TOUCH. Not a shot at goal mind. His first touch if the ball.

Apparently another game in February where he wasn't able to successfully control the ball ONCE, and kept giving away possession, only to huff about later.

Needless to say his highlight videos are unimpressive, he seems to be mentally fragile, he's 29, he's a moody *, and the vast majority of fans at a league one basket case want rid.

Massive nope.

 

He looks like an even uglier James Arthur..

For that reason alone...I'm out..

My understanding is that Ange likes a poacher in the box, someone whose scores lots of goals from within 10 yards. The high press fast attacking is done by the midfield and wingers, it will not be a lump the ball up the park team but looking at this guys highlights, he scores lots of tap ins and headed goals from crosses. I think he is the type of player for Ange’s system. Whether he’s good enough is another question, Sunderland fans don’t seem to think so but he scored many good goals last season at a standard similar to the SPL

 

I genuinely rather have Griffiths.

 

Charlie Wyke has told Celtic he wants a four-year contract that will double his wages, Football Insider understands.

The Sunderland striker has held talks this month with the Glasgow giants over joining on a free transfer.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Wyke is holding out for a long-term deal running until 2025 that would include a pay hike doubling his Black Cats deal.



The 28-year-old also wants a multi-million pound signing-on fee.

Sunderland have already offered Wyke a new and improved long-term deal but he has yet to accept it.


The centre-forward position is one of some concern for Ange Postecoglou’s side ahead of next season.

The Hoops sold Polish striker Patryk Klimala to New York Red Bulls in April.

Star man Odsonne Edouard also looks to be headed for the exit door amid interest from multiple Premier League clubs.


Meanwhile, long-serving Leigh Griffiths is out of contract at the end of the month and there has been no official word on a new deal.

If all three were to depart it would leave Albian Ajeti, who scored just once in his last 20 appearances last season, as the club’s only senior striker.

Wyke is a proven goalscorer and his 53 matches in all competitions last season yielded 30 goals.

He has found the back of the net 58 times in 175 appearances in English football’s third tier across spells with Hartlepool, Bradford and Sunderland.

 

Didn't want him beforehand and this should be enough to put a nail in the coffin of the deal happening. No chance will celtic give a 29 year old nobody a 4 year contract, regardless of whether or not he's a free transfer

He's * and so are his stats.

279 (55) appearances and 150 goals - 104 of which are in the last 6.5years giving him 16 goals in all competitions for the last 6.5 seasons.

Pish stats. Previous to that was the other 46 goals over 3.5years which makes the average still around the 16 goals a season mark in the lowest leagues in English football where they should be scoring for fun.

I'd get it if the guy was someone who had somehow been overlooked at 26+ but had been banging in 25+ goals a season for years. But he is the definition of a journey man having signed ffor 8 different clubs in 7 years, where only at Sunderland has he managed to stay for a prolonged period.

What an idiot, close to getting the biggest move in his career and he comes out with demands like that.

 

I mean if its true we are in for this diddy we should be very worried at our recruitment because this guy is absolutely dog muck, not good enough to be 4th choice at a club like us, there are better lumps in SPL than him.
