We won't be getting strikers until defense is put in order. Not unless they're young prospects or Bosmans.

Got this from the BBC website - Celtic have been told by Bordeaux that £6m-rated striker Fernando Cavenaghi is not for sale. (Sunday Mail).

Cheers Hammy and i do agree about strengthening but i just dont want to see us in the ridiculous situation that 'they' find themselves in of having more players for the one/two position than can fill a bench.

£6 mill is a lot of money nowadays and im pretty sure we could buy some really decent cover for the back with that kitty. For instance, if £5k a week is the stumbling block for Tamas then take it oot the £6 million and get the guy in.

Anyways looks as though it may not be a goer now, so need to wait and see what happens.

Seems a player, worth keeping an eye on as has been said, possible JVOH replacement in a season or 2

Think he was a plan B if the Samaras deal fell through. I wouldnt want to see us spend the rest of our budjet on another striker as people have said its the 1)left back, 2)centre back and 3) holding midfielder positions that we need strengthening. If you think about it though, we had the best defence in the league last season.

Haven't seen nor heard of him ever before. Unfortunately Celtic seem to be reduced to searching for diamonds in the rough as a result of today's bloated financial climate. I am not convinced of the wisdom of the Samaras deal though...anybody agree or disagree?

err completely disagree with you 9jinky9. Samaras for £1.2m, rising to £2m with add-ons, is a bargin.

I disagree. He'll be lucky to get 15 goals this season. He wasn't good enough to oust JVOH or McDonald, so I don't think he's worth it. I'd rather we kept the £1.2/2m and played Riordan, spending that money on a better LB/CB.

    CAVENAGHI GOING NOWHERE - BORDEAUX

    Posted 21/07/08 09:09

Bordeaux have warned Celtic that Argentine striker Fernando Cavenaghi is not for sale.
Cavenaghi has impressed for Bordeaux since joining the French club 18 months ago from Spartak Moscow.
He netted 15 goals in 23 Ligue 1 appearances last season and has been linked with a £6million move to Celtic.
Though the SPL champions have not made contact regarding Cavenaghi, Bordeaux chairman Jean Louis Triaud says any approach would be futile.
"I haven't had any contact from Celtic with regards to Fernando and nor do I want any," said Triaud in the Daily Record.
"Quite simply he is not for sale. No price would convince us to sell him because he is one of our best players and we do not need to sell him.
"There are three years left on his contract, he has done well here and is happy.
"He is a Bordeaux player, so if Celtic are planning to contact me at any stage about him I would tell them not to bother.
"They should save themselves the price of a telephone call and look elsewhere."

I used to buy this dude in FM before he went to Bordeaux he was a goal machine...anyway away from computer games, we should be looking to strengthen in any area possible IF it makes us better cos the only way we will be in the last stages of the champs league is if we improve!

if he is worth 6 to 8 million and we arent breaking the bank to pay it then why not for someone of quality.

    Unbelievable.

I want us to bring players in, but 6- 8 million quid on a guy :

    1) most of us have never heard of :87:

    2) NOBODY is interested in is real desperation :38:

Cavenaghi would instantly become the best player at the club, but we're probably strongest in attack. If we did show interest in him I'd bet it was before we signed Samaras.

Had him in FM too, unbelievable goal machine.

    Back to reality

Seen some of this guys goals this season, he's been hitting headlines with his impressive form. He would be worth the money but they aint selling him and its easy to see why

I personally think its the papers just headlining anything they can get on us as we seem so unactive in the transfer market, or the board are being so secretive.
