FootyLatest.com: Celtic to approach Bordeaux for Cavenaghi

Fernando Cavenaghi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Looks like we're still in for a striker. :icon_mrgreen: Sounds promising and the guy is only 24.

Celtic negotiators are still in Auxerre talking to Gabriel Tamas and are hoping to reach an agreement today over the player's personal terms. Both sides seem confident that a compromise will be reached.

Now there are reports in the French press that the Celtic team are intending to move on to Bordeaux next, to try and prise the Argentine international Fernando Cavenaghi away from the French giants.

Cavenaghi has an Italian passport so there would be no problem about work permits and reports are saying that Gordon Strachan is willing to go to £6 million from his budget to land this ex-Spartak Moscow and River Plate striker.

He started off his career at Bordeaux slowly after arriving from Spartak Moscow for a reported £4.25 million, but he burst into recognition in the second half of last season. He had a spell of ten goals in just nine games and ended up with 24 out of 44.

Strachan is hoping that, like Tamas, he can persuade the player to leave with a higher wage than he can earn in France, and if he is successful, Cavenaghi could be a prolific goalscorer for the Scottish Champions.

i don't think Rangers were linked with him. i've only heard we were at the end of the Jan window, then never heard of anything since.

this guy is a good striker. would welcome him. however, i think its fabricated. i don't think we will be shelling out £6m for a striker when there is still questions over left back for us.

Must stay guy sounds promising. Although can see celtic making an offer then
an EPL team coming in and snatching him.

    welcome Top Cat.

i think we should be keeping an eye on any area of the pitch. some more than others. but if the opportunity comes up to sign a player that will strengthen our strike force, or any area for that matter, significantly then by all accounts we should go for him.

what it says in the Sunday Mail is that we were interested before we got Samaras. since then Bordeaux haven't heard anything from us. he was one of our options.

French side Bordeaux warn Celtic off signing striker Fernando Cavenaghi - The Sunday Mail

hope we go after the guy again in another window.

This would be a great signing although the priority should be a left back.
