Georgios Samaras

There was periods where Samaras was maybe the most polarising and hated player in the squad. Over time, he seemed to have sporadic moments of greatness in all the right games and his off-days didn't seem so bad. By the time his end came, I think it's safe to say he was loved by all Celtic fans.

 

I think that is a pretty fair account of how he was looked upon at Celtic. For me I never looked on him as some super star who should be amazing all or most of the time which I think to a greater of lesser extent some Celtic fans did. There was no question he could be inconsistent. But when he was at his best he certainly made a significant contribution to this past decade of dominance and he clearly himself as a person bought into and really appreciated playing for Celtic. He clearly developed a genuine affection for Celtic over his time with us and he will always be a former player I will have happy memories of.

I loved big Sammy and he clearly loved our club. He was inconsistent but always looked committed to the cause and I loved his 2 goals at ipox when no one gave us a chance that day. I got so pished that day

 

We could really do with him coming back..

Annoyed the * out of me at times but I still loved him

His rapport with Wee Jay was heartwarming

 

Whatever he's doing now I hope he's happy and warm.

We went to Crete last year and the wife and I went for a walk into hersonissos and stopped for a beer and the wee man who owned the pub seen my Celtic face mask so started shouting Samaras to me, he's involved in some capacity at a team on the island.

 

Crete has just got itself 60k visitors first summer we can all travel

He’s only 37? Ffs could feasibly have still been playing, I know he took up a director sort of role at his hometown club but not really heard anything else since he’s retired

 

So good at his best, so bad at his worst.
