Thats one * of an amount of games from Billy McNeil when you consider more games are played in a season these days. Scott Brown is definitely a Legend but even in that company Billy McNeil stands above them all.

I think there are more as Glasgow cup games arent counted in his total (yet) although when he played it was a major cup comp in Scotland.

On my excel spreadsheet i have completed up to end of 1918-19 season and have list of 134 players who played in the Glasgow Cup.
Some of those names will definitely change the stats on the list.

Edit: Busy tomorrow so will do some more on Friday and rest of weekend.

Some names I’d not have expected, like Rogic and Bitton. Makes sense when you pause to think on it though.

Finished sorting them out. Just waiting until last match to update current list then will put up the list with Glasgow Cup matches.

Celtic used a total of 370 players during the Glasgow Cup history up to the end of SENIOR competition in 1987/88 season.
The top 3 players with most GC appearances were

    Alec McNair
    Jimmy McMenemy
    John Campbell

Is that John Campbell the same Johnny Campbell who played in the 19th century? If so, one of those rare players who returned to the club and made as big an impression in the second spell as he did in the first, before finally leaving the club for Third Lanark in 1903 - and proceeded to help them win the League the next season.

Fwiw, that was before Celtic went on to win the next 6 on the trot, featuring both McNair & McMenemy. And no surprise McNair is there. He was pretty much the first choice RB for 19 of the 21 seasons he was at Celtic.

After the hun game both Callum McGregor and Tom Rogic have moved up a few places out of the current squad.
Cal Mac has just equalled King Kenny in appearances but is 119 goals behind him.
