Cannot believe that there are people on here suggesting that Lenny was correct to pick Brown in cup final because of opposition having 2 hun * deadbeats in their side.

I've been a critic of Scott Brown and I've probably wanted him out the team longer than just about anybody.

But, I'll say this. His reaction to Soro the other day when he was subbed in for him was great to see. He's a class act.

You are correct, and great to see, its in the guys DNA, team player and Celtic to the core. Just that right now, there are better options on the field of play.
He still has a role to play, as I bet he has a * of an impact in dressing room, on training ground, and even in a game management capacity when we are trying to see out games.

Made absolutely no impact at all when he came on. Difficult given we were down to ten and Lenny was taking off our most threatening players. Shame when legends go out on a low.

Soon as we went 1 up top we turned back to our usual unthreatening pish we've had until the last 4 games. What kind of decision was that when needing a goal?

    Article from Chris Sutton today
Scott Brown must stay. Regardless of whether Celtic win or lose the race for Ten In A Row.

The captain was left out of the starting line-up for last weekend’s Old Firm game against Rangers.

He’s been sat on the sidelines in other recent matches as Ismaila Soro has taken his place and really cemented a spot in the side.

It all points to a career winding down. An inspirational skipper who is coming to the end of the road with a contract expiring at the end of the season.

But I’ll tell you one thing. With so much uncertainty around Celtic and huge upheaval looming in the coming months, it would be crazy not to have Brown around that dressing room for 2021-22.

I’m not saying he should be playing 20 or 25 games. It might only be five or 10. As he turns 36 years of age of June, it might not be any.

But I still feel he needs to be there and there’s a reason for coming to this definitive conclusion.

It was actually by sitting down to have a think about what is needed at Celtic? What needs to change? Who are the personnel and individuals who can be relied upon going forward and what is required?

Nick Hammond has a huge job on his hands and there is bound to be a squad overhaul.

But the more I tried to work out who should stay and who may go, the more confusing the entire picture became.

It starts at the top. Do we actually know for sure if Neil Lennon is going to be boss for the beginning of next season?

Neil has been given the backing of Dermot Desmond and it remains his job.

You’d imagine it may take a blistering second-half of the season with a success in the Scottish Cup at the very least to give him any real chance of extending his reign beyond this season.

It’s doable, but unless you can say so for 100 per cent right now, it surely makes it tough to start plotting now for summer transfers, doesn’t it?

Then you look at players and try to work out what Celtic need. That’s the sort of decisions you can only take when you know who really wants to stay.

Using an example, if I look at the backline, I’d say Christopher Jullien is worthy of being part of a new set-up and I’d like to have Kristoffer Ajer beside him.

But when you don’t know if the Norwegian is going to want to leave if big offers are going to be made for him, then I can’t say if another centre-back is needed or not.

Celtic need answers from Ajer now, although I suspect they may already have them.

Keeping Diego Laxalt would be on the mind for left-back if a deal can be done with AC Milan, but a right-back is required. Jeremie Frimpong has bags of potential, but he’s not an out-and-out defender, as shown at Ibrox.

You’d want future skipper Callum McGregor at the heart of things and nothing we’ve seen in the past six weeks would suggest that Soro or David Turnbull aren’t worthy of places

James Forrest’s true value to this squad has only really become evident to some people in his long absence. He’s a gem and a must, as opposed to Mohamed Elyounoussi who hasn’t done enough thus far to warrant shelling out a big fee.

Odsonne Edouard will be gone, so strikers are required. I’d keep Leigh Griffiths and make sure he worked every day of the summer to be at peak for the beginning of the 2021-22 campaign because, when fit, he’s a brilliant finisher.

It goes without saying I believe a keeper is needed. Now, never mind the summer.

Ryan Christie hasn’t signed a contract extension yet. Like Ajer, Celtic need to know his intentions to know whether they need to add in his department.

My point from all of this is that, when you look around the place, it’s hard to say what’s needed until you know what you’ve got.

It’s why I’m saying Brown must stay. I don't like using this example when Neil is in position, but, just for talking sake, say there is another manager. Brown can be his go-to man and get messages across. Look at how much Brendan Rodgers leant on him at the beginning.

Alternatively, if there’s a raft of playing personnel changes and more new faces arrive into the club, he’s the one who beds them in and sets the examples.

Leading from the front in training sessions and even in post-match fitness routines after he’s not played in the game, he’s a shining example to the rest. New players get to understand what it’s all about from him. They take a lead from him. He can be the glue to new pieces.

When I was there, Tom Boyd barely played at the end of his career, yet he was still part of the group. He was the captain and had the respect of the boys. A constant.

Keeping Brown to help out in training sessions should be a decision for the next management team.

The Lawwell way is to make that decision for them of course since he’s the accountant that thinks he’s a DoF.

I doubt he’ll even ask Jack Ross his opinion.

Don't agree, jobs for the bhoys will get the club nowhere, let him go out & prove himself in a coaching capacity first like many have to do without prior connections to Celtic. Guys like Darren O'Dea, Stephen McManus etc shouldn't be in the hugely influential roles at the club within the youth setup given their inexperience, hire guys who are the best at what they do in that setup instead

Shouldn’t even be considered for a new deal. I don’t mean that maliciously, he’s a club legend and has been a phenomenal servant. But this summer was always going to be a one of change and turnaround, 10 or not, and that was going to include the exit or offloading of some of the iconic players of this last decade of dominance.

    * I'd play him as centre half on Monday before anyone of the so called centre halves we have other than Ajer. most of the time he plays these days he's in line with them anyway :67:

JOHN KENNEDY has revealed veteran Celtic skipper Scott Brown could get another 12-month playing contract with his current deal up next summer.

The 35-year-old’s starts now are becoming limited due to the rise of Ismaila Soro and he’s considering hanging up his boots to focus on coaching.

The former Scotland international has been a main stay in the Hoops side for many years and has won everything on offer to Celtic in the domestic game.

Brown has spoken with Kennedy and people at the club over his future beyond the summer.

And Kennedy believes he has another year left in him, but ultimately the decision will come down to the Celtic captain.

He said: “Ismaila’s been top class. He’s a young player who’s come from a foreign country and it’s taken time to adjust. He’s taken his opportunity.

“Scott has been absolutely outstanding for us. I’ve known and worked with him for a long time. He’s a top class professional and an absolute legend at the club.

“Playing 60 games a season is difficult for anyone, but especially at Scott’s age.

Scott will still be an important character for us, whether it’s in big games or even just around the place.

“Does he have another year in him? I think he might have. It will be Scott’s decision.

“I’ve spoken to Scott myself and I know he’s spoken to people at the club in terms of beyond the season.”

    'it will be Scott's decision'

Will it *, he doesn't decide who gets contracts ffs, the new manager (which better not be * Kennedy) will decide if he still wants to keep him or not & that's the only person who should decide

There are many, many players currently not getting a place in the match day squad because one of those places is taken up by 35 year old Brown, Connell & Karamoko for a start as well as many others could have that place instead, this season has shown his 'leadership' has meant * all with the shambles it's been, a new start is needed & Brown leaving is right at the forefront of that.
