    OK Cheers Bigwill.
But i dont agree that the people who kill innocents on purpose are dealt with accordingly.
They get let of quite lightly i think, and alot of these incidents go unnoticed by those in charge.

So what about the bomb attacks in pubs in the mid 70's that killed over 20 civilians, or the bomb on Harrods, or Warrington (when the only 2 people killed were 2 children), or Manchester, or London's Docklands, or the financial district......

All the above bomb attacks were carried out by the Provisionals where the only targets where civilians, can you not see that those are acts of terrorism?

I support the aim of a united Ireland, but I could never condone attacks such as the above.

As for those that cited the PLO as Freedom fighters, although they have now recognised Israels right to exist prior to 1991 they didn't and did carry out many terrorist activities including the firing of two bazookas at a school bus, the Munich Olympic massacre and the Maalot Massacre (again were school children were the victims)

I'm sorry but if you carry out acts of terrorism then you are a terrorist in my book.

Governments and armies all over the world have also committed atrocities that I could never condone, however the question wasn't about governments it was about if those groups are terrorists and as all of them have carried out terrorists attacks that makes them terrorists no matter what their aims.

    Thats not true ...

Are u saying they set out to hurt civilians.?
It was a tragedy that ppl died .. but theyve said many times they never set out to harm anyone. Their aim was to cause damage to huge british infrastructure, hit the british government were it hurt most .. which was in their pocket. Costing them millions .. so that eventually it would draw them into a negotiating settlement.

I have edited my post to say all the bomb attacks I listed targeted civilians and yes bombing a pub, department store, etc meant they set out to target civilians
If that isn't deliberately targeting civilians then what is?

I'm aware they're not just from the two countries mentioned, but there is a large concentration there. We might end up fighting in Pakistan too. It's not a losing battle in my opinion. It's extremely difficult work at times, but education can go a long way towards bringing better relations. By the way, Taleban doesn't necessarily mean muslim. They'll likely have many atheists/agnostics etc fighting for them too.

tbh i think it is.they will always get more and more people ready to die for what they supposedly stand for.there are probably guys in almost every country in the world ready to die for the sake of there 'cause'.
and i don't believe it is right the laws/punishments they believe in.but i also don't think its fair to say they are all against the taliban or whoever cos everyone is an individual.just cos people have met guys/woman who are against them doesn't mean there aren't thousands who are for them

and another thing....afghanstan accounts for something like 80-90 per cent of the worlds heroin so how does so much get produced/out of afghanistan?
there are a few hidden motives behind this whole thing.

I have to agree with fully_bhoi67 - the kind of conflict we are fighting now cannot be won. You could say that the potential cost of any 'victory' is far too high.

I don't see what either of those two videos have to do with whether or not the groups listed in the poll are terrorists or not. I didn't think Israel were part of the Iraq war so how linking Zionism to the war in Iraq has anything to do with this thread I don't know.

It's already been stated that governments and armies have committed atrocities, however, the question was whether those groups listed were terrorists, just because a government does something wrong doesn't mean terrorists have free reign to target innocent men, women and children.

What does everyone think of the MK? (Founded and commanded by Nelson Mandela) They used guerilla warfare against an oppresive government who killed cilvilians with landmines amongst many other crimes.

They deployed similar tactics to the groups mentioned.

    Bombings
Landmark events in MK's military activity inside South Africa consisted of actions designed to intimidate the ruling power. In 1983, the Church Street bomb was detonated in Pretoria near the SA Air Force Headquarters, resulting in 19 fatalities and 217 persons injured, most of whom were military personnel. During the next 10 years, a series of bombings occurred in South Africa, conducted mainly by the military wing of the African National Congress. In the Amanzimtoti bomb on the Natal South Coast in 1985, five civilians were killed and 40 were injured when MK cadre Andrew Sibusiso Zondo detonated an explosive in a rubbish bin at a shopping centre. In a submission to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), the ANC stated that Zondo acted in anger at a recent SADF raid in Lesotho.[5]
A bomb was detonated in a bar on the Durban beach-front in 1986, killing three civilians and injuring 69. Robert McBride received the death penalty for this bombing which became known as the "Magoo's Bar bombing". Although the subsequent Truth and Reconciliation Committee called it a "gross violation of human rights", McBride received amnesty and became a police officer.
In 1987, an explosion outside a Johannesburg court killed three people and injured 10; a court in Newcastle had been attacked in a similar way the previous year, injuring 24. In 1987, a bomb exploded at a military command centre in Johannesburg, killing one person and injuring 68 military personnel.
The bombing campaign continued with attacks on a series of soft targets, including a bank in Roodepoort in 1988, in which four were killed and 18 injured. Also in 1988, in a bomb detonation outside a magistrate’s court killed three. At the Ellis Park rugby stadium in Johannesburg, a car bomb, killed two and injured 37. A multitude[citation needed] of bombs in “Wimpy Bar” fast food outlets and supermarkets occurred during the late 1980s, killing and wounding many people. Wimpy were specifically targeted because of their perceived rigid enforcements of many Apartheid-era laws, including excluding people of colour from their restaurants. Several other bombings occurred, with smaller numbers of casualties.
The TRC later found that in the case of the Durban beach front and Magoo's Bar bombings, these acts constituted "gross violations of human rights".

The bombings of military targets were not in my opinion acts of terrorism, however, the bombing of "soft targets" ie civilians, is terrorism in my view no matter the reason for carrying out the bombing.

Although the end of apartheid and the reunification of Ireland are in my view just causes, they do not entitle those fighting to deliberately target innocents, the killing of innocents, especially children, can never be justified as an act of "freedom fighting" in my opinion.

    Probably.

DanniGhirl, in your view they are, but in view of their enemies their causes are evil. I believe that in order to understand certain conflicts and organizations around the world one should read a lot about them. My knowledge about Hammas or Tamil Tigers etc. is rather poor, therefore I can barely understand their reasons for that way of struggle.
