    Melbourne City FC can confirm it has signed Scottish defender Jack Hendry on an injury replacement contract.


    The 24-year-old comes into the squad after the long-term hamstring injury to Richard Windbichler.

    Hendry arrives from Scottish Premier League side Celtic, signing with the Glasgow-based club in 2018 and making 15 appearances for the hoops.

    He began his professional career with Partick Thistle before being signed by Wigan Athletic in 2015. After loan stints at Shrewsbury Town and MK Dons, Hendry was signed by Dundee FC in 2017 before being signed by then Celtic Head Coach Brendan Rogers.

    The defender has also represented his country on three occasions, making his international debut against Hungary in 2018.

    Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said the defender’s addition will add depth to the side’s back third.

    “We are really pleased to be able to sign a defender of Jack’s ability to our squad,” he said.

    “He comes to the Club with experience in the Scottish Premier League and with invaluable European competition experience.

    “His physical attributes and composure on the ball is a welcome addition to the squad and will provide more competitive depth to our defence.”

    Commenting on his signing, Hendry said:

    “I’m looking forward to the challenge of coming to Australia and continuing my development at Melbourne City,” he said.

    “It’s an exciting prospect to come to another league across the globe and play football and for the time I am at the Club, I’m fully committed to achieving success at Melbourne City.

    Hendry is Melbourne City’s second signing of the January transfer period and will be available for selection ahead of Saturday’s clash with Perth Glory pending visa approval.
