Yeah exactly. If we want, say, £30m for him, we aren't going to accept anything less than £43m with £13m going to city.

That makes no sense to me. Do you think if he is valued at £20m (in market terms) and someone offers that we are going to say no, we want to make £20m so you are going to have to pay £28.5m and clubs will just pay up?

£1 is a lot of money cider.

Not too long ago you could buy a football club for that.

I think we’re going to take into account a sell on clause. At 30%, a £20m bid would represent £14m to us. As far as we’re concerned, that’s how much we’re selling him for. If we value him at more than £14m, why would we sell him for that?

Take it to an extreme case and say Man City have a 95% sell on. A £30m bid would net us £1.5m. We would accept one of those scenarios and completely reject the other.

It isn’t quite as black and white as I’m portraying it, but we don’t lose 30% of his transfer fee. The buying pay an additional % (maybe not the full 30%) to get him.

NL: I’m delighted with what Frimpong brings to the team – offensively and defensively. He thoroughly deserved his goal, he’s an outstanding talent and just watching him makes me tired, the way he runs up and down that line.”

I don't see itlike that. Do you think if KT had a 30% sell on and we wanted £25m for him Arsenal would have said, ok here's an extra 42.5% to cover that for you? It's what the buying club are willing to pay, otherwise you are just going to price them out the market and end up with them leaving at the end of their contract on a free.

Another way of looking at it is the 30% is his transfer fee paid in arrears, so in my hypothetical £20m scenario instead of paying city £8m up front and then selling him for £20m, netting £12m, we are getting him for £1m (with add ons), selling him for £20m City getting another 30% and us netting £13m.

Wonderful young talent, he's at the right club for his development, Lenny really rates him and it's no wonder with what we've seen so far.

If Manchester City have a 30% or 40% sell-on clause, I would prefer just to let him run down his contract (unless we are banking north of £20m).

    He is an outrageous talent.

He’s only 19, if he carries on the way he is going I can see him getting a new improved deal. The lad isn’t daft the way he talks, looks at what Van Dijk has done since leaving us. Main thing for him is playing first team football. Can see him being around here for a good few years to come

I honestly believe he ‘gets it,’ the joy he shows on the pitch is infectious.
He may stay for a while. Would love that

No what would happen in that situation is our asking price would be £32.5m, as we wanted £25m in the bank for him.

And if we do that what are our chances of getting top young players for peanuts from City (or anyone) again? Do you think if City had said he's £4m up front with a 10% sell on fee he'd be here just now?

This is a low risk model for us and for it to continue to work we need to sell them on and pay the %. Personally I think it is infinitely preferable to the loan system we have been using up to now, where we get nothing.

Great game again today, seems to improve every game. So willing to learn and improve himself and delight the fans. Seen posts about value and that *, who cares. That's a long way off I reckon, will be here to lift the ten that's for sure and we'll all be here to see it. Safe travels everyone.

I understand that's the theory, what I'm saying is clubs are not going to be paying 42% over the market value for our players just because we have a sell on clause, they will go elsewhere.

TBF City have spent 9 years supporting and developing the lad, the product we're seeing now is all down to that.

Losing 30% if and when we sell this lad on was a fine and practically risk free piece of business IMO.

We set the market value, it’s not like it’s a 3rd party deciding the prices. We decide the price where the money becomes more useful to us than the player would be, hence if that’s £25m in our coffers, that’s what they’ll need to pay.

How can we grumble about a sell on fee when we've picked up what looks to be one of the hottest young full backs in Europe for a few hundred grand?

If he carries on pulling up tree's at the rate he's going, there's no doubting we'll get a very tidy sum for him..

It also gives us a good starting point for any other kid's at the likes of City/United etc who decide they want to move when we come calling..

He isn't going anywhere for year's..

As I said I can see that's the theory, I just don't think it works like that in reality. But when PL is negotiating anything is possible I guess.
