apparently we have dropped our interest in him due to his high wage demands and focusing on Lens' Belhadj and Shakthar's Rat. both are far better than Atouba and don't like to run into trouble like he does.

Timothee Atouba says he is planning on staying at Hamburg despite reported interest from Parkhead.
The Cameroon defender said: "My priority is not to transfer, my priority is Hamburg. Celtic is a great team with a great history and I played there a few years ago for Basel. I have had a lot of offers, but the Celtic one is not concrete."

    Kyogo. A phenomenon

30k a week is may too much - put into perspective, the Dark Side have tied up McGregor who is an excellent keeper and proven in the SPL... he signed a long-term deal for about 20k a week - how this guy thinks he will command 30k a week is beyond me. If we are spending that on wages i want it to be on someone who doesn't have a reputation of being a *....

so true we cant afford to make 30k a week mistake again.

altho keepers dont usually get paid as much as the outfield players
and rangers are cheap as *! :50:

Have never understood keepers getting paid less - the most important position in a team; Our contract to Borus reflects that, i suppose...

Good shout about the Huns - hahahahahahaha, enjoy Cousin and Jean-Claude for another year!

Celtic target Atouba may consider concrete offer
    Wednesday 09 July 2008

Hamburg and Cameroon defender Timothy Atouba is aware of interest from other clubs, but seems to waiting to see if he will figure in new coach Martin Jol's vision for next season before accepting any offers.

He says that he is happy at Hamburg, but doesn't dismiss the possibility of a move to Celtic if Jol decides he is not part of his plans.

"My priority is not to transfer. My priority is Hamburg" he told reporters. "My family is happy here and I want to give everything for this club."

"Celtic is a great team with a great history and I played there a few years ago for Basle and they have a great stadium, but I am concentrating on the start of the season with Hamburg.

"I have had a lot of offers, but the Celtic one is not concrete.

"If it became concrete and was good for both side - HSV and for me - then the time may come to leave."

Jol originally sold Atouba to Hamburg, which may be why Atouba in unsure of his future. He had trouble getting into Jol's Tottenham team, behind Erik Edman, and may think he may have the same problem this time around.

A Hamburg spokesman said just the other day: "If Celtic want to make suitable offer, maybe we can talk."

So now it looks like it is up to Gordon Strachan. It is thought Hamburg will accept any offer over £2million for Atouba.

[Source] Atouba linked with British duo

Thimothee Atouba expects to be able to make an announcement on his future in the next few days.
The left-back is a free agent after his contract with Hamburg expired at the end of the 2008/9 season.
He has been linked with several clubs but reports in France and Germany now suggest Wolves and Celtic are battling it out for his signature.
Celtic have been tracking his progress for some time, while Wolves are understood to want more experience in their squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Atouba, who spent a year with Tottenham earlier in his career, admits he is likely to move to Britain.
"There are many chances my career will continue in the United Kingdom, or somewhere else, I have many contacts," Atouba told skysports.com.
"There is interest. I am relaxed and will be making an announcement in a few days."

Sorry, not allowed to post links yet but it's on the Sky Sports News site -Transfer Centre page.

Hmmm, interesting. I remember us being linked with him a while back. I rate him but others apparently don't.
