Lennon had the higher highs (i.e. the 2012/13 season). But Rodgers was more consistent in Europe. Got us Euopean football after Christmas 2 out of 3 seasons. Lennon achieved it once from 4 seasons.

Getting skudded off PSG isn’t more embarrassing than getting beat off Sion and pumped off Utrecht in qualifiers.

He was a younger manager back then for the Utrecht game and aye Sion was very poor as well. Not denying he has his faults but up against top level European opposition I know who I’d rather have. Rodgers had a fair bit more cash behind him than Lennon too

Think people do forget how little Lenny spent in saving the squad from the shocking mowbray reign. The damage mowbray done was always going to take a while to fix and I think Lenny done a great job of that. Infact he done such a good job of it along of his signings are still here! Then the signings that are not here either went for millions, retired or enjoying a decent career elsewhere. Think recruitment overall under Lennon was very successful on a lesser budget to Rodgers too

Getting beat 12-0 on aggregate against anyone is more embarrassing in my opinion.

Not just the score line but the sheer arrogance and naivety on display from our coaching team.

    12-1*

Fair enough. Personally, I feel Utrecht beating us 4-0 is much more embarrassing than PSG beating us 7-1 or 5-0.

Just keep seeing this "Lennon will get us back to where we belong in Europe". Based on one European campaign out of 4, he's the man to get us competing in the CL. Of course he is.

It’s pretty much why I’ve resigned myself to “wait and see”.

Just now, I want Lennon to help us win our remaining games and then we’ll find out what’s happening.

12-1, forgot the 1. Dembele’s goal made them angry out there :56:

Getting beat 4-2 off Utrecht was a bad result over two legs undoubtedly but Lennon had taken over the worst Celtic team in history and we were very much in transition.

I’m not necessarily campaigning for Lennon. My thoughts on him getting the job totally depend on the candidates he is up against in the recruitment process.

However, the next manager had better be more pragmatic and sensible in their European approach, as our results, attitude and performances under Rodgers were nothing short of embarrassing.

We could do worse than learn from the sub standard teams who visit us every second week who at least put up a challenge and have been trained on how to keep a shape.

We do need to be more sensible, but I don't really want us to just go back to sitting every player behind the ball and praying for a lucky break or a good set piece.

    That’s not what pragmatic means.

And what’s wrong with a set piece? I want * to also be terrified of us at set pieces. It’s a weapon that we need to use.

Nothing is wrong with set pieces. I want us to be more clinical from them. My point is I don’t want us to be a team that relies on them.

Every player behind the ball and praying for a lucky break.

I actually can’t remember a time that we were actually succesfull in Europe just playing like that either. When did we do that?

I didn't say that is what pragmatic meant.

We beat Barca by doing exactly that. Backs against the wall, and scored from a set piece and a lucky break (Xavi missing the ball in the lead up to Watt's goal).

Aye, one off games sometimes you need to defend but people forget we were actually getting forward that game. Winning 1-0 and we subbed Lustig for Tony Watt, see if that didn’t actually work, how mental would we have been going?

Song should have got sent off because he couldn’t handle Miku going forward, likewise Watt and Mascherano at the end.

Being pushed back and boxing clever against one of the best teams ever isn’t that style. We didn’t play that way against Spartak or Benfica (think we should have done it a bit more Benfica away tbh) but I can’t remember a time that was our actual style in Europe?

Same mate. Genuinely disgusts me. Sheer lack of respect for a Celtic Legend.

So many people calling for his head but I’ve not yet once heard a viable alternative.

Neil has been part of the Scottish game for nearly 20 years. There is nobody knows the Scottish game better than him. If anyone thinks he’s not the one to see us to 10 I’d love to hear who is better placed to lead us. European progress is a pipe dream under our current circumstances. We made no progress in Europe under Rodgers. The core of our team is young Scottish players. All who Lennon knows well.
By the looks of things he’s got the balls to stand up to our board too, fancy Loan signings have been given the boot, Weah, Burke, Toljan all put to the side. This is him making his mark, a statement. He’s saying he won’t accept second best. He wants a squad of players playing his way without the fanfare that comes with those kinda signings. He wasn’t backed before and left, I think given the backing he could bring us a long way forward.

Just because we love the guy doesn't necessarily mean he's the right man to take us forward as a Club. Love can be blind sometimes and have seen nothing much so far that wants him charge longterm.

That may change tomorrow, League wrapped up, we should see something different.
