Toulouse have dropped their £21m asking price for Bolton target and striker Johan Elmander, who has one year left onhis contract with the French club. (Various)

I know we are not linked to him directly, but should we be sniffing around this guy. 1 year left on his contract, and a class player, a bolton target could we tempt him here?

would say 7-8 m be a silly gamble, or a wise investment considering he is worth much more in todays market

Absolute quality this guy, i'll be very surprised if he doesn't progress into one of the top strikers in Europe in the next few years. Unfortunately he may be out of our reach, but who knows? If we could stretch to maybe £6 mil then we could have a chance. And i'd be absolutely buzzing!!! :icon_mrgreen:

Celtic can not afford to make "silly gambles" in todays transfer market... especially at a cost of 7/8m which would be the lionshare- if not all- of our spending for the summer!

If we sell one of our big players, which might happen anyway and also forget about the samaras fee, this could happen and possibly leave us with money to spend. This would be a chris sutton or john hartson type signing and i think we are in a financial position to do it. If he shows his class which i think he would we could at least double our money on him in a year or 2. I would sign him in a minute at a last year of his deal price.

Have to agree with Green Goblin on that one far to much of a risk if this guy dosnt perform, Tore Andre Flo was a quality player b4 he moved to the dark side, dont think celtc would even consider paying out so much money on a striker anyway as they will probably buy samaras n mabye another striker during the transfer window

I would much rather see this guy if at all possible and would forget samaras. It was just a thought, but this elmander guy is a player along with a few more that can have us maybe pushing for the last 8 of the cl, i also think samaras is not that man. I really think that with henrik having a wee word along with a decent offer and we could get this guy

I still think the monetary value is way out of our league. The guy- as far as i am aware- has no CL experience. I agree that we may be in such a financial position to afford such a fee but i do feel by spending 8m on a striker we would be putting all of our eggs in one basket.

Should it not be the case that if wee lose one of our bigger players (Boruc, McGeady) that the fee recieved should go to replacing them rather than merely strenghtening a position that pulled in 50 goals this year???

that depends, if we get 10m for boruc for an example we may get a good replacement for 2.5, or if mcgeady goes for 12m, kewell comes in on a bosman 12m minus some wages to spend.

    is that fergus mccann?

it doesnt make sense to spend 8m on an unproven striker...... raphael was a "silly gamble"... I think other positions such as left back- which was exploited time and time again in europe- would be more of a priority should we make such profits from our bigger players. We are also in dire need of a commanding centre half.

Fergus McCann might have been prudent but he was the best thing to happen to Celtic in our 120 year history- for if it had not been for the man in the bunnet, you could have been getting your shopping where CP stands....

I respect your opinion and it is a valid one, my question to you is would you be unhappy if we signed elmander for 8m, or would you be very happy?

He is great but im not sure that either we could afford to spend what they want on 1 player and if he would want to come and play in the SPL.....

i havent seen a great deal of him tbh, but i really dont believe that if the figure on his head was initially 21m then that would have been reduced to 8m. I think if we had a budget in excess of 20m then fair enough spending such money on 1 player would be feesable but i really dont c it.....
