I can see both sides of the argument here. The fact of the matter is, the tactics are all wrong away in Europe and sometimes even at home.

I love Brendan, but his record in Europe has to be up there with the worst. Having said that, there is merit in the argument that we can't compete financially with any of the big money teams anymore. 15-20 years ago we could go out and buy a Sutton or a Hartson, now that level of player is WAY out of our budget. At this point all we can do is wait for the bubble to burst and even things out a bit more. The level of spending in world football at the moment is unsustainable!

when have we ever had a manger that is getting paid 2.3 million a year? Lennon and his background staff cost around 400 grand a year under a strict budget and the only teams we got beat against at home were Barcelona (1 goal) Athletico (1 goal) and 3 each against the Italians (Juventus, AC Mlian) which are respectable results with the budget he was supplied with. Brendan (in most cases) gets the results that are expected , the only time I can recall where we were underdogs and won has been Anderlecht away and Zenit at home (pretty even).

I do agree it is surprising the outrage of some to lose against Leipzig 2-0 with mostly 2nd string players, If we don't get at least 1 win from Salzburg/Leipzig games then it is justifiable to kick off. Could we bring in a manager getting the same budget as Rodgers does and get better results domestically? highly unlikely, could we bring in a guy who gets better results in Europe? 100% yes. The inability to scout the right players under Rodgers mixed with his tactics in Europe is going to hold us back from progressing any further unfortunately, if we don't get at least 5 points from the last 3 games Congerton HAS to be the first one to go.

I certainly don't want an increase in the wage bill, our squad is too big! Rather I want exactly what Brendan himself identified as important: quality over quantity. He explicitly said that should be the goal right at the start; but we mostly haven't got that (see my terrible beer analogy above :52:).

As I said above and apart from Hayes (who really does seem to have been Brendan's), I see plenty of reasons to think many of these signings that are sitting on our bench collecting a good wage were not Berendan's. If they were, his attitude towards giving some of them game time is very confusing.

The board did this to Lenny. Admittedly with rookie managers, it is understandable (it turned out to be a mistake not backing Lenny, mind); but not backing a manager like Brendan by going out and getting his targets (apart from that very first window) seems a waste to me.

Edouard this summer proved that Lawwell wasn't bullshitting when he said we would spend the money if the right investment is there (and I believe we also tried hard to get Paddy); but isn't it interesting that we are only willing to do that when Lawwell himself knows the player well?

At some point we have to trust the manager.

It's only a weak correlation IMO. Ronny was down to earth as * and never, ever seemed to learn in Europe; someone like Mourinho is a million times more arrogant than Brendan and always learning and adapting.

I wouldn’t say Mourinho has adapted his style of football in years now mate, fell behind the best. Gaurdiola or Klopp would be a better example imo.

    Good correction, thanks. :50:

Well it was true 10 years ago.:56: I'm a bit out of touch now. My brain is stuck somewhere about 10 years ago (the last time I watched anyone except Celtic). People say modern football bores them, I voted with my feet. Life is too short to waste watching the current meaningless borefest.

we should be able to compete not be hemmed in like rank * amateurs in some of these away games

thats where my anger is and although brendan isnt the only one to suffer from performances in europe like that, i dont understand how players that we have signed even the first team can look sooooo poor as footballers in away games, we play like individuals not a team, there doesnt seem to be any fighting for a cause going on, no belief we can go and win or get a result

we play in a diddy league with diddy teams, europe is where we see the real growth in the team and players

I understand the frustration around, recruitment, European performance & some of our league form.

My point still stands though, he's the best we can get and we're lucky to have him. If he walks in the summer it will leave a similar type hole that MON left. And mediocrity will be hard to combat.

Calibre wise, yeah he is/was the best we could get.
I'm so * glad we did get him, * I've still got that buzz when I say he is our manager.

But it doesn't mean he is the only one who could get the results we need.

Absolutely no offence to Ronny, but he is a manager of a much lower sock and calibre than Brendan, domestically his team's were shocking to watch (Rodgers giving him a run for that the now), but he still walked out with two league titles etc.

A treble is * hard to do, so major props to Brendan for doing it back to back, but I don't think he is the only one to be able to do it given the right amount of luck, circumstances and players.

A manager could come in and win this domestic scene and be able to acknowledge the team's weakness and step it up in Europe.

Lennon managed it, Strachan managed it - I * hate him as well - so why can't Brendan manage it?

At some point he needs to wake the * up and fix the issues we have, be it personnel or tactics etc. But he needs to wisen up to it.
Because, although we can't name the exact guy who will eventually replace him, someone else will come in eventually after him and most likely do better in Europe with what we have currently at our disposal. Purely by being harder to beat and changing it up.

So Brendan needs to think about this, stick to his footballing ideals, or sacrafice and develop his game a little to get the results we need in Europe to then go on and be able to invest better for the players to then play the way he wants us to in Europe.
