We spent £9m on a striker and going by reports just had an £8m bid accepted for a defender. That's big * signings. A few loans help too.

Odsonne Edouard did not cost £9m. Brendan Rodgers has already confirmed this.

Peter Lawwell scuppered the Piccini deal. So ‘we’ weren’t prepared to spend £8m on a defender as Peter Lawwell now very much is Celtic Football Club.

Loan deals are fine, infact loan deals are the best way for us to work....we get a player and they play for us for a season or two....the club, the manager and the fans get to see what they are all about.
Do they have what it takes to be a celtic player,...then like eddy we buy them and its job done.
The problems start when the player is here for a season or two and they do not want to be here any longer or we simply * about and don,t bother buying them.

Eddy was a perfect loan and buy deal, but paddy i think didn't really want to be here after his 2nd season.

The vast majority of loan deals do not work like the Edouard one.

Yep,but what if most of them loans had been players we went out and bought.....there is always problems in life but i think loans or...try before you buy are the best way forward for the cub...sure their are some players you just say * yes buy him and no need to loan first.

We have no intention of buying these loanees, and likely won’t have the option to anyway.

This is the cheap option. It’s not some revolutionary way of propelling Celtic back onto the main stage of football.

It’s a win win for The Dictator - no money spent, and a clap on the back for his wee boy from Celtic’s masters in Manchester.

The manager who won those back to back trebles has said we are weaker since winning them.

Taking Boyata, Roberts and Armstrong out the squad big important players added to the fact we can't seem to get Edouard and Dembele a run together.

Loans do my * in too but if the wealthy clubs are just hoovering up all the best young talent across the world, never mind just Europe, then we’re limited to what we can do. It’ll just get worse IMO.

They really aren’t. It’s merely a fallacy which comforts the Celtic support.

We’re only shaking our paper cup at City because Lawwell’s son is high up in their scouting and youth side of things.

We lack imagination in the transfer market because our director of football is an accountant.

Dembele, Edouard and Ntcham are evidence of very smart scouting recently...

I get the frustration we have a good reason but you’re unbalanced with it. Paddy was a successful loan too..

JAMES Milner today insisted that Brendan Rodgers is a better manager now than when he led Liverpool to the brink of their first English title in 24 years back in 2014.

And the England midfielder has predicted the Northern Irishman will ensure Celtic bounce back from their Champions League exit by clinching a place in the Europa League group stages.

Rodgers came in for fierce criticism last week following his side’s aggregate defeat to AEK Athens in the third qualifying round of Europe’s premier club competition.

But Milner, who Rodgers signed for Liverpool in 2015, feels there is no disgrace is failing to successfully negotiate four qualifying rounds.

And he is confident his old boss will recover from that setback immediately by overcoming FK Suduva in the Europa League play-off.

The 61-times capped player feels his former manager’s time at Anfield, where he was sacked after just over three seasons in charge, will prove invaluable during this difficult spell.

“Brendan did well at Anfield and he came so close to ending that long wait for the title,” said Milner. “He’ll be a better manager now for his experience at Liverpool.

“The success he’s had in Scotland suggests that. Brendan did a good job at Liverpool and he’s doing a good job at Parkhead.

“Liverpool’s loss has been Celtic’s gain. He came here and he’s won every trophy so far – he hasn’t lost a cup tie since he came to Celtic, which is ridiculous – no matter what level you’re playing at, that takes some doing.”

Milner added: “The Champions League is very tough, especially when you factor in the number of games Celtic need to play just to reach the groups.

“I’ve played in qualifiers before and people see some of the teams involved, with players they’ve never heard of, and they think it’s going to be easy, but it hardly ever works out that way.

“You find that they’re in the qualifiers for a reason. They might not have the same exposure as the clubs from the biggest countries, but these are hard ties, especially because they come so early in the season

All the hard work you have done the year before to get into a position to get into the Champions League qualifiers can be thrown away in a two-legged game. It is tough. European football is obviously important to a club like Celtic.

“I’m sure they’ll be pushing hard to get into the Europa League group stages. That is a great competition as well. Unfortunately, I lost to Seville in the final with Liverpool. Thinking about not winning that European trophy still hurts.

“There is quality in the Europa League from the start, even before the clubs from the Champions League drop in. It’s a very good tournament to do well in."
