Not sure why we rejected the bid without giving him an ultimatum.

Sign a new deal or you’re going to Fulham you *.

    * hour.

Exactly. He could now net himself a tidy we sign on bonus. It's because his agent knows he's actually * and is trying to cash in now on a world cup.

    This.

By Rodgers own admission he was looking to wait til the World Cup before assessing his options. That should've been a massive red flag that he might not want to be here next season.

In all honesty I don't blame Boyata, he's a very limited footballer on circa £15k per week that could probably double that and make decent cash in his last big contract. Celtic wouldn't and shouldn't pay him £30k per week, he's not worth it.

Even if Rodgers was 95% sure he would eventually stay at Celtic we should still have had others scouted to move for. To not do so - as Rodgers alluded to in saying it would be "too late to find a replacement" - is just awful management whatever way you dress it up.

I wouldn’t have gave him the option of the new deal.

He would have been on the next flight down to London if it was up to me especially at £9 million.

It appears Olympiacos made a offer for him of around €9 million - which Celtic rejected out of hand earlier this summer. Since then Olympiacos has secured other CBs.

Honestly I have no idea who he was before the news of our offer today. I can tell you that despite having the best attack in Greece last year - our defence was one of the worst. So I think this summer we were in the boat: 'anything must be better than Botia, Engels and Romao..'

Wot his agent is doing is trying to highlight his availability maybe they expected more suitors after the world cup ,their drama is designed to lower our price so we accept just to move on from this ,i dont believe fulham offered 9 mill either ,would be great to freeze him out for the disrespectful way they have gone about this ,but having a player like this around will cauz more damage than its worth .

Boyata is a shocking defender so you guys aren't missing out on anything. It is genuinely mindboggling that there have been offers of 9-10 million for him. One of (if not THE) biggest bombscares I've ever seen play defence for Celtic.

we could have a multi-offer type gig going-

    Jozo for 5 million.

    OR

Jozo with Boyata thrown in for 4 million........you know like when the supermarkets do these bonkers deals sometimes when you can get a couple for less than the cost of one!!

sad state of affairs we've got ourselves into here which could have been avoided nearer the start of the window and bought a half-decent CB. FFs we still needed at least one with everyone fit with the caveat of Compper who can't spell the word!!

In Compper's defence, could you spell fit in German (without googling) ?

As much as I rate Rodgers highly (maybe as high as any Celtic manager during my life) I have to agree with you 100% here. I think as fans we always felt this scenario was a possibility. After watching boyata leave a fairly decent account of himself at the world cup it only increased the chances of seeing this scenario. And it's a scenario that should have been prepared for. Think Rodgers is a superb manager and I hope he is here for the long stay. That being said he isn't immune from questioning and u can't help but question why we didn't prepare for this scenario.
