can't agree with that mate......that would be a horrendous precedent to set. You may think this is bad but * me if we do that then every single club in future will try and rip the hole outta us!! Gotta stand firm!!

By the by, this * has been mentioned more on here in the last couple of weeks than the rest of the squad put together and he's still no our * player!! Give it time....i think he will be!!

or we have maybe told him to sit tight until January and we will buy him for a knock down 6 figure price at that point maybe?

No. If we did, Brighton would know that by now and wouldnt have wasted their time. BR will want players to be in the squad for the next qualifier(s).

Your 100% wrong, he will move this window because Hibs will take money for him. He is worth more to Hibs sold, than to stay and Hibs to achieve for talking sake second in the league.

Thats fine, provided that there is few other teams interested in him who can compete financially with us.
For most EPL teams and some Championship teams, £2m is not a lot of money.

We have played this badly and will be more out of pocket for it as a result. If he isnt at us by the end of the window id imagine BR will be frustrated

This all comes down to where the player wants to go. I think he wants to come to Celtic and therefore all is well. Hibs can hold out for anything they want, but it means * all if he wants to move to us.

It was an offer of £2m plus Scott Allen as far as I believe. I think that is a very favourable deal for Hibs until someone at Hibs moved the goalposts

If we stand firm on £2m his next club wont be Celtic. We no longer hold the upper hand in this situation.
This isnt like the GMS transfer, there has always been teams down south interested in JM.

Our ace card still lies in the fact that we have players that Hibs want, and that they are worth more in the transfer than their value in money (as St mirren will receive a significant chunk of any fee).

I think that you are right but money changes things. In any case, in light of new concrete enquiries, we will have to pay more for him.

That sounds like a fair offer imo, but i still believe £2.5m and Allan is a fair offer, especially given his importance to them.

That game last night was worth £250,000 to them. Big ask, but if they get past Molde, they are into the EL group stages. Taking that into account, the next game is potentially worth in excess of £500,000 to Hibs.

If they progress against Molde, they will enter the Europa League Play-off Round.

One thing's for sure......our board are playing brinkmanship on a few fronts including this one. There's also the CB/RB situation and that's the ones we know about it.

If you take a step back and look at some really important dates.

August 9th.....English window closes.....could be beneficial

August 28/29th.....if we get that far we would know if we're in CL groups or not. Still would leave a couple of days before window closes and would be cutting it fine but with our lot you never know!!

    August 31st.....window closes for us.

Aye I get you, however when you read enough ITK posts, especially on KDS and the likes then I’m calling bullshit. Can’t just throw out ‘I know for a fact’ without backing it up.

Hibernian midfielder John McGinn admits the escapism provided through football is the perfect tonic to the overwhelming attention of Celtic’s high-profile pursuit of his services.

That interest is only set to intensify following the news that the Leith club are also in talks with English Premier League side Brighton about the potential sale of the 23-year-old.

After scoring the crucial goal in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Asteras Tripolis to earn Neil Lennon’s side a historic Europa League victory, the Scotland cap has spoken for the first time about the moves to prise him away from Easter Road.

Celtic have had several offers, the latest reportedly being £2 million, rebuffed, with the Hibs board holding out for closer to double that amount.

A boyhood Hoops fan and former season ticket holder, the emotional draw of a switch to the east end of Glasgow for McGinn, whose grandfather Jack was once the cub’s chairman, is difficult to suppress.

Furthermore, the attraction of a move south of the border to join football’s wealthiest league is obvious.

Everyday life has also been more problematic, with Hibs supporters keen to extract any morsel of information regarding his intentions.

However, McGinn, who is in the last year of his contract, admits pulling his boots on in the refuge of the club’s East Mains training base and in games has allowed him to distance himself from the clamour.

“It was really hard initially but when you’re on the football park, you forget,” said McGinn, who scored the first goal in the fraught draw in Greece as Hibs won 4-3 on aggregate to come through two successive European tie for the first time in 45 years to set up a third qualifying round clash with Norwegian side Molde.

“You’re walking along the street and everyone is asking you. It’s no bother for the first few times but then it starts getting annoying. You just want to focus on your football and keep getting better and let things happen.

It’s tough, I’ve never hidden from the fact that there will be a time that I move on but it will have to be the right time and the right moment but obviously that’s not come yet.

“Football is a great place to get away from things and going over to Greece was amazing and I’ve loved it - it is basically getting away from all the talk.

“I know you try and ignore it but sometimes it’s impossible, but it’s been good to get a couple of results over the last couple of weeks and I’ve loved it.

“Even the boys at training just make light of it and, after one or two jokes, they just carry on as if nothing has happened.”

Lennon has been in McGinn’s shoes previously after a protracted transfer saga preceded his dream switch to Celtic from Leicester City in December 2000.

McGinn, therefore, is grateful to be able to confide in the Northern Irishman.

The dynamic playmaker, who will turn his attention to tomorrow’s Premiership opener against Motherwell at Easter Road, added: “I had a few discussions with the manager and he was great, he has been in this position himself.

“He is a really good guy to bounce things off and he said he was in this position when he was at Leicester and he wished he dealt with it a bit differently.

“Thankfully I’ve taken that advice on board and I need to keep improving.

“That’s what’s got me in this position and I want to carry that on and keep getting better as a player.”

Given the remaining length of McGinn’s current deal, it is likely that this season will be the 2016 Scottish Cup winner’s swan song in Leith.

He is adamant, however, that his performances will not suffer.

"I’m the kind of guy who always gives 100 per cent,” he added.

“I’m grateful for what this club has done for me and I love playing for Hibs - I never take that for granted.

“It’s nice to know you’re doing something right but at the same time I need to be respectful to Hibs.

“I’m their player and I’m under contract here and as long as I’m a Hibs players I will give 100 per cent.”

McGinn would doubtless gain extensive European football exposure should he eventually make the move to Celtic and admits the experience of coming through ties with Icelandic side Runavik and Tripolis has been exceptional.

He added: “The benefit of coming to a place like Greece and winning is priceless for your development.

“A few of us have been playing for Scotland since under-19 level so we are used to being away in Europe on trips.

“You see opposition who will try to do anything to win and sometimes you need to try and do the same. They cheat and do whatever they can to win.

“The big thing is that they are very good at it, you learn a lot of about your own game by experiencing this. You need to be brave to able to stand up to tough atmospheres and against top players.

“Playing away from home in Europe is never easy.

I watched Celtic against Rosenborg on Wednesday night and they didn’t play particularly well.

“But the only thing that matters is that they are in the next round.”

allan is what worth £1m and £2m for mcginn, a playmaker for a grafter in total worth £3m for hibs in the last year of his contract is plenty fair

they are being greedy, i dont blame them for that, they cant sell him unless he wants to go though can they ?
