As a Celtic fan for over 25 years but with no religious loyalties I used to think a Bigot was a religious problem or just a blind pig headed intolerance for the Dark side and vice versa on there part. If I am honest with myself for me peronaly it means I want/wanted nothing but the worst for Rangers and all who is associated with them. If that is a fair assesment of a bigot then that has made me one for all these years as a Celtic supporter.

I know I will most probably get slaughtered for this but this last period in our history has made me re-access my position as a Celtic fan. I don’t know how long it will last but I currently no longer feel the same animosity towards Rangers as I used to only a short time ago. The hand of friendship and the compassion some Rangers fans have shown along with Walter Smith and Ally McCoist´s amazing gesture yesterday towards Celtic and one of our favourite sons Tommy Burns. This has brought a change in my way of thinking as in 25 years of following Celtic I cannot remember such a significant moment between our two clubs.

In the past it has made me physically sick to my stomach of the thought that Rangers would win any game of football never mind any honour. At this minute I cannot say that anymore I have had a shift in thinking and I now believe that I have been a Bigot all these years.

So much so that the way I feel right now is if the worst happens tomorrow night and Rangers win the title I cannot see myself being anywhere near as upset as I have been on previous occasions eg. 03, 05.

Don’t get me wrong I will be absolutely devastated and distraught at the thought of us losing the league. However I just don’t think I will feel that same sickness in my stomach of the thought that Rangers have won it that I have been so used to feeling over the years.

If that makes sense.

Has anyone else felt anything similar?

BTW I am sure we will win the league tomorow night and thankfuly I will not have to test my stomach.:84:

It was warming to see the Rangers fans tributes to a great man, my mate was one such guy. Smith and McCoist done well at the funeral and I dunno who's idea it was but it was good to see. Thing is though, that doesn't hide the fact that a large section of their support are scum. Theres no need to once again highlight all the reasons behind this observation.

The decent Rangers fans need to oust the massive 'minority', then I may look at it again.

Some people are just 90 minute bigots though, once the games over they go back to work and get on with life living and working beside people of all different faiths. Football does strange things to the brain. But respect to man who gave so much to football is understandable

A bigot is someone who is intolerant of cultures, races, practices or or beliefs different from their own and doesnt neccessary just mean religion. Rangers obviously have a big bigotry problem that doesnt need further discussion its so obvious. In general I dont think tims are not a very bigotted lot at all other than the vibe that only certain political views are valid and their opponents are treated as scum. I think that is OTT and strong views often based on sketchy knowledge. I notice that northern Irish protestants are almost immediately demonised by a lot of tims when mentioned, I know plenty of very good ones (actually the good ones are the best of folk) and find that offensive because it is bigotry similar to huns who hate all Irish catholics. Dont like the term presbyterian being used as shorthand for bigot. Thats just stupid seeing about three quarters of the country are from that religious background. Again that is stooping to anti-catholic peoples level.

Sectarian means something different and that is to express views that only appeal to a section and are inflamitory to others. Again the Rangers sectarian element is for all to see and doesnt need commented on. I think we are more guilty of broad sectarianism than bigotry, sectarianism in the sense that political views that are known to be very very inflamitory to the bulk of the population are sometimes loudly expressed and lets face it often in reaction to provocation or as a GIRFUY. I always have felt that its not very generous of spirit (phrase makes me think of Tommy Burns for some reason) to do what you know offends others when you dont need to. Dont believe in * for tat. Two wrongs and all that.

These things are on the wain and the club is rightly trying to stamp them out. I still cringe at the non-football stuff sung in some away games though. Views on divisive issues should be private or only expressed among likeminded people. The sense I get from those who persist is agression.

Bigots are folk who are obstinate and intolerable on religion or opinion other than their own! You know, morons!

As soon as your born they make you feel small
by giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
Working Class Hero is something to be
Working Class Hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and despise a fool
Till you're so * crazy you can't follow their rules
Working Class Hero is something to be
Working Class Hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for 20 odd years
then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear

Tommy Burns was a working class Hero

as a long lost catholic/atheiest

my mamie brought me up never to to HATE any one or any thing she is absolutely correct,

why then do ordinary people have to HATE someone/thing/person

grow up ,

look around the wider world travel get a bus train out of glasw

( i went to america, backpack europe etc.) eye with f all money it can be done.

and when you come back you realise that as a 16/18 yr old sectarianism is just an another means of "divide and conquer"

I realise that that not everyone has the same oportunities, but if youlook for it ,it is there
(scotland is a now a rich
country (unlike the 80's)
if you want it go for it

rock on

beliefs ,relegions or what they think to be true
in their own minds then you are not a bigot :50::50:

Felt like this for a couple of years myself. Very good post mate, we need more people like you to realise we are just as bigoted and it has to be dropped. It's backwards and just plain pathetic. This is the 21st Centuary after all. How long can people hate each over a change of opinion on Religion?

Nice one mate, top quality words from you there and I am proud to say I reached the same conclusion as you a couple of years ago.

I was at my best mates house watching the Rangers game with him. I love this guy, how could I possibly hate, dislike or tar him with the brush of a "Hun" or "Dirty Orange *"

Simply put, I could not. He's my mate and if he supports Rangers, so what. They are just a team.

Edit : Don't think I could ever stop caling them Huns though!

Thanks for that mate nice one :50:

Your friendship with your best mate (a Rangers fan) is not a one off I am sure. Many other friendships across the divide will exist.

I hope out of adversity, good can come and silly attitudes can change.

Keltoi said in his post that some of the chanting at away grounds makes him uneasy at times and a few others on here have expressed similar views i.e. "90 minute bigots".

These are good things to be hearing maybe times are a changing. It is a true fact that there is a strong element within the Rangers support that are "Scum" for want of a better word. However I think the freindship that has been shown by some of them should be embraced by Celtic and our fans. As it would be great if the divide could become smaller between the two clubs. What a fantastic way that would be to honour the life of Tommy Burns.

BTW I don’t think I could ever stop calling them Huns either.:84:
