Balde bound for Marseille switch

Celtic defender Bobo Balde is poised to sign for Marseille, according to the French club's website.
The Guinean international, 29, has been the subject of continued speculation in recent weeks, but it now appears that he will definitely leave Celtic.

Balde was photographed at Glasgow Airport on Sunday morning.

Marseille's sporting director Jose Anigo said: "The Balde deal should be done. I've seldom seen somebody who has shown such a desire to join us."

Balde turned down a move to Middlesbrough in January, and signed a new contract at Celtic Park.

But it later emerged that his new contract included a clause allowing him to leave the club this summer on a free transfer.

Marseille now look set to take advantage of that.

"He knows the club and he's ready to leave the stability of a good contract in Glasgow to come to Marseille," added Anigo.

"He has a strong personality and has all the essential qualities of a good defender."


(the clause was for b4 the end of summer was it not? so how can they take advantage of it? pay up france!!!) sorry 2 see bobo go... (kinda)

 

bang on weem. that quote really * me off. should be a honour to play for us, lucky he's still getting a game. he's * anyway stupid big *. im not fussed at all to see him go, means we'll actually need to sign a defender and hopefully its a good quality one. o'shea a good call but did man u not knock back a offer from newcastle for him?

 

We should have got rid of him ages ago whem the likes of newcastle wer williing to pay millions for him. i worry evry time he touches the ball. he is my leest favourite player

 

i liked Balde, but i wont be sad to see him go.. after his 'desire' to leave us, last season.

at least he cant play champions league football.

another point is - Strachan may get desperate and sign Dabizas after all..

 

The only bad point about this whole saga, is that Bobo should have been up front with the club and given us more time to get a replacement. I think Strachan might go for Taylor(I think that's his name) at Birmingham, he's in the right age bracket, but he needs to move quickly as we face the Orcs a week on sunday. I think Du Wei will come back on an initial 6 month loan with option to buy, but with Bobo's huge wage gone I would like to see at least 2 central defenders and a left back signed.
Good riddance to Bobo, we got our money's worth, but he was beginning to cost us money with his erratic defending. Time's up for Varga as well, and IMO he should be emergency cover only.

 

Frees up a cool 30k a week to spend on someone who actually wants to play for the club

Dubs for 30k a week, we could get 2 replacements. 3 weeks till the closing date of the transfer window I believe its 31 August. Release some funds board and let us get a good couple of replacements for Balde's wages

 

If he doesn't want to play for the hoops, and apparently he doesn't, then get shot immediately irrespective of how good he is. He's a liability and you're right, for 30k a week you could get a couple of half-decent centre-halfs. Dellas and Du Wei maybe? Du Wei is only 23 or so, bring in some experience as well.

Don't personally rate Dabizas or O'Shea...

Reuters are saying Olympique Marseille have struck a deal to sign Balde. Considering Celtic are a PLC, this new agency take their info from insider info on stock exchange etc, so it looks like he's away. No fee as per his contract clause, Celtic looking to capitalise on using the wages he was on to sign a deal for Du Wei.

Whats with this statement of the Marseille diector? I mean IF he is correct aren't we gonna look foolish after all we are looking for someone who has all the essential qualities of a good defender. Sumptin dont jive here!!
