Maybe but you hear thing's from being plastic paddies to no singing the national anthem in Gaelic. There's definitely a strange bitterness out there..

Aye i do slag one's like that who have no clue about football. Also that's just the norm to slag fan's of club's out with their city. Cockney United fan's have always been slagged down here and Liverpool but it's the sheer bitterness towards us I don't get, as opposed to tongue and cheek/banter..

Also Irish descendants that support English team's and like the Huns. I find it unbelievable how many of those types are down here..

The games 9 days before the peru game. Youre away with it if you think brown would prefer ireland to the country he captained for his testimonial.
The choice is purely to get arses on seats, to make the day as good as can be and get as much raised for charity as possible.

Still makes no sense from a brown pov given how testimonial opposition is usually selected

Yeah, I think a few of my mates probably have a distaste for Celtic for that exact reason.

I am not shy in letting them know that I think they are all glory hunting bawbags and their opinions on Celtic couldn’t mean less to me. :56:

    I don’t think that.

A Celtic v Scotland game wouldn’t sell out? The game would likely sell out regardless of the opposition.

Who’s to say that Scotland didn’t refuse an invitation to provide the opposition for the game?

Brown is unpopular among many Scotland supporters because he plays for Celtic and because he chose to retire from the national team, and many people are displeased with Scotland’s decision to play friendlies against Peru and Mexico in South and Central America, never mind a testimonial against Celtic.

Good words from BR and PL

THE Scott Brown Testimonial Committee is delighted to officially announce a fantastic match between Celtic FC and the Republic of Ireland XI, in honour of Celtic captain, Scott Brown.

Former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill will bring his Irish team to Glasgow to meet the Celtic first-team and take part in a wonderful event to celebrate the career of a great servant to the club.

The match will take place on Sunday, May 20, 2018 with a 2pm kick-off. Celtic Park, one of world football’s finest venues, will host the match which is sure to be eagerly-anticipated by so many supporters.

A proportion of proceeds from the match will go towards various charities and causes of Scott’s choice, including the family of former Celtic and Ireland player Liam Miller.

Chairman of Scott Brown’s Testimonial Committee, Willie Haughey said: “We are delighted to announce this match which we are sure will capture the imagination of supporters and be a fitting tribute to a fantastic player and a great Celtic and Scotland captain.

"Scott has served Celtic brilliantly now for more than 10 years, establishing himself as a true fans’ favourite. He is someone who has given his all to the club, and for the past decade he has dedicated himself to Celtic and played a crucial role in delivering a phenomenal level of success to the club’s supporters.

“We would sincerely like to thank Celtic Football Club for granting Scott this Testimonial Match and, of course, we are very grateful to the FAI and Martin O’Neill for agreeing to travel to Glasgow to take part in this celebration of one of the club’s most successful players and greatest servants.”

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell added: “We were really pleased to grant Scott this testimonial game, and we wish Scott and the Committee all the very best for this match, which we are sure will be a fantastic occasion.

"It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Scott during his time at the Club. He is a man who has given his heart and soul to Celtic and been such a pivotal figure for the club for more than a decade. He is highly-deserving of this honour and I am sure our supporters will be keen to join the club and the Irish national team in celebrating such a great career.”

Brendan Rodgers said: “When I became Celtic manager, I ensured one of my first jobs was to meet Scott, as we discussed our plans for the future. He is a hugely important figure at the club and someone who I have been privileged to work with.

"With a tremendous will to succeed in everything he does, he is someone who we know we can depend on, someone you want in your team and a man who has been the most influential player in Scottish football for some time. He operates at the highest level, as a player and a captain, and I know he is greatly appreciated by our supporters who see, week in, week out, the energy, passion and commitment he gives to Celtic.

“He gives everything he has to our cause and through his talent and ability has been a major part of Celtic’s success, not only in my time at Celtic but for many years. We will be delighted to take part in this match to honour a great man and a great Celtic captain.”

Did anyone question Liverpool as a choice, by the way?

If Ireland can sell more tickets for a game against Celtic in Glasgow than Scotland can, that says something.

Given that the vast majority of Scotland fans hate Celtic and everything for which it stands, it would hardly be surprising if Scotland were not asked to provide the opposition for what should be a celebration of a man who epitomises Celtic.

Dont know why we wouldnt splash cash for real madrid or the likes i guess ucl will still to be played if they are there

Who cares if the team means nothing to brown its going to raise money for the respected charitys and thats all that matters and if this helps great . Securing a treble the day before would sort a sell out anyway

The only people with a problem should be huns and remain at huns! I would say why im not sure but lets no kid ourselves on

Don't give a * who it's against, it's to celebrate Broony. He's done it on the park for us for years and off it. Never takes any hun * during interviews, speaks out and doesn't give a * if it's not what the media want to hear. Also rubbed opposing fans face in it on regular occassions. We'll be going.

I will be going to say thanks to Broony, it's his game after all, as for the opposition i couldn't give a * who it is tbh.
Seeing * trying to score points though is funny. Maybe that's more important to them though although am sure Broony himself would enjoy winding those * up, so it's all good :giggle1:

Aye I dinny care who the opposition is for Broony. I was always going regardless simply so I could help celebrate one of Celtic's modern day heroes.
