    * gutted at that. Can't win, another good season and that'll fee with double. Was now or never.

We'll never see Paddy here permanently. But glad we get one last season anyway.

All though the window is closed can a permanent deal still be agreed at any point? Seem to remember something like that happening with Boruc

I think so. My understanding is you can't register players when the window is shut, but you can still do the business. I think a lot of transfers get done at the end of the season but before the window opens.

We should try and strike a deal through the season but I feel like Man City and Pep will insist on getting him back for another pre-season.

Yeah. Well he'd be playing and eligible for all comps for us on Loan anyway between Windows so it's just a case of him joining permanently at the next one.

However Pep will be wanting 12 months to assess. Either way the lads value isn't going down and we definitely won't be looking at 8m next summer. He'll go for double that and stay in the prem.

Hopefully they do terrible this season and pep gets sacked, new manager comes in adn doesnt care and lets us have him. If this is true though it means Padyy would be happy to come on a permanant. He could potenitally force a deal next summer

The super-clubs have no real need to balance their books so they can just stockpile young talent. I can't see City ever bringing through youth into their team while their goal is to win the CL. Sanchez will most likely be there next summer too.
Celtic agreed a fee for Guidetti mid-season, I believe - hopefully the same can be done for Roberts.

His return here proves that player power still plays a big part in transfers.

    Wouldn't say never just yet.

“Pat is a massive signing for us and I’m absolutely delighted to welcome him back to the club. We saw what he brought to the team last season, I know he loves the club and is so happy to be back – and I know Kieran is thrilled to have his friend back as well!

“Pat is a real favourite with our supporters and I am sure he will play a crucial role across all the challenges we will be facing.

The piece in the daily ranger today from Gordon Parks reeks of desperation, despair and outright ragin hunnery against Patrick * * what a piece!

Basically saying Paddy has no ambition and he wasn't even a first team pick during his 18 months here was a slight built slow burner who was in and out the squad and only really came good at the end of last season!

    * disgusting from this * Parks again!!!

Celtic star Patrick Roberts has shown a lack of ambition by returning to Scotland

The great Jackie Chan takes the credit for the truism: “Great success comes only with great ambition.”

Wise words in a week when Patrick Robertsopted to chop another year off his career by re-signing on loan with Celtic.

An inconvenient truth it may be but he has chosen to step back into his comfort zone rather than showing a belief he can push himself to a higher level. The mutual affection is one thing but how does this benefit a 20-year-old who should be desperate for new challenges?

Champions League games aside, the Englishman has sidestepped the prospect of going one on one with some of the best left-backs in Europe. The well established trend of talent flowing away from Scottish football has been bucked by Roberts and it raises a question mark.

An assessment of his previous 18 months in Glasgow is of it being a slow burner, lightweight, in and out of the side before an impressive burst late on.

But why turn down the chance to play a season in La Liga with Girona or head to France with Nice instead of plying his trade at Firhill, Dingwall and the plastic of Hamilton and Kilmarnock?

Absence makes the heart grow fonder but the clamour from Celtic fans to get Roberts back said everything about their starvation of genuine star names being recruited.

And this has been a week which couldn’t have highlighted better the climate change within football for speculating on young talent.

PSG-bound Kylian Mbappe is just 18 but apparently he’s worth £166million. His Monaco pal Thomas Lemar, 21, is valued at £92m.

Roberts will know Leroy Sane well from Manchester City and the 21-year-old’s development has set the bar for where his mate’s ambitions should lie.

Bayern Munich’s £28m recruit Renato Sanches is younger than Roberts and has accepted the challenge of a season at Swansea while 20-year-old Ousmane Dembele has signed with Barcelona for £96m.

These are the fees being paid for top young players – and they’re operating in a different footballing stratosphere.

Bluntly, our game is where bigger names arrive for career rehabilitation or last resort.

It is a better place with someone as good as Roberts but the suspicion remains that it’s a development stunter for a kid who should be
showcasing his skills in football’s biggest arenas.

As Paddy and his pal Kieran Tierney are about to discover, Paradise is no place to reach for the stars.

    WOW!:56:
