JOZO Simunovic could make his international debut for Bosnia and Herzegovina tonight in the World Cup 2018 qualifier against Cyprus.

The 23-year-old Hoops defender was called up to the Bosnia squad last week and will start on the bench for the Group H fixture at the Neo GSP Stadium in Nicosia.

Simunovic was born and raised in the Croatian capital Zagreb and represented Croatia on all youth levels as captain of the Under-17s, Under-19s and Under-21s.

However, he has been overlooked by Croatia for a senior cap and, following a conversation with Bosnian manager Mehmed Bazdarevic, has decided to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina where his parents and grandparents are from.

In a recent interview with the matchday programme, Simunovic outlined his reasons for joining Bosnia.

“I’m a professional football player and these kinds of decisions are normal,” he said. “I want to play international football and hopefully I can help the team qualify for the World Cup.

“I have relations from there, my parents and grandparents are from there so it wasn’t a difficult decision. My family are really proud of me and I am very happy, so I feel really positive about my decision.

“We are in third position in our group, two points behind Greece. Belgium are in first so we will fight for second place and try to get that knockout qualification stages.”

 

Anyone know if he got any game time for Bosnia? Don't think he will play on the artificial surface at Hamilton, so it's essential he gets some time before PSG..
