Dam right,we've had our fair share of hard groups, hopefully being in pot 3 will increase our chances of a more realistic group to proceed from.

Being in pot 3 should definitely mean we aim for Europe after Christmas. Honestly if we had got 3rd this year I think we would have gave anyone in this years Europa a tight game.

What an odd article in the OP - mentions Rijeka as "good news" even though it's completely irrelevant b/c our CC is higher than anyone from Crotia anyway, and omits that in Germany, two teams (not just one), Leipzig and Hoffenheim, with lower CC have qualified. It also fails to mention our CC has jumped Salzburg since last year. So sure, effectively we are a +3 in terms of CC hierarchy already compared to last year.

But yeah, even then we're definitely not a lock for Pot 3. People need to read this post again:

Just to clarify, it's actually worse than 'top 24', because the 7 clubs in Pot 1 (other than defending champion) are determined by country (specifically, countries 1-7 in the "country club coefficient" ranking). Often, this rule won't matter because qualifying clubs from those countries usually have high CC anyway, but that's not always the case. For example, this year CSKA Moscow already secured the title in Russia. But they have done virtually nothing in Europe since their last title five years ago, so their CC is barely above 10.000 - but they still take a Pot 1 seed because Russia is in the top 7 countries. But now if Zenit qualifies in 2nd place in Russia, their seeding will be based on their CC of 87.106, so this effectively pushes us one spot back (compared to if Zenit had won and CSKA was second). Still, it's a wash versus last year b/c Leicester City winning England created the same situation.

In any case, the point is that it's not just our CC that matters - it's the CC of the clubs that qualify that matters. And there is a lot of luck involved in that. We had a lot of luck in that last year, and still didn't even get into Pot 3.

Anyway, the reason I posted this today is that the EL final is ManU-Ajax. If ManU win they are guaranteed a CL spot, and it will be an additional one if they fail to qualify from PL top 4 (which seems likely). This would push us back another spot compared to if Ajax wins (because Ajax is already qualified). Stuff like this means there is a still a long way before we really know where we're at, and then there's the issue of what actually happens in qualifying, too...

My home club (Dundalk in LOI) are in the 2nd qualifying round, and we are playing our first game in Oriel, our home pitch. We only have 3300 seats, so if Celtic draw us, Be prepared for 150-250 tickets MAX!

Being Seeded in pot 3 in groups will be great but this will be tough again, 2nd round shouldnt be a problem its the 3rd round where the danger lies in wait,

Astana, Hapoel Be'er Sheava, Malmo, Maribor, Rosenborg are old foes and even though we are in a fine run of form, every one of those teams will be into their season.

Looking at co-efficent we will be 2nd or 3rd highest co-efficent all the way though the "champions route" in rounds 3 and playoff all being well.

round 2 will be regionalised again so a wee northern european trip should be on the cards, also remember to factor in some of these dodgy plastic pitches too!

Would prefer to have 2nd legs at home in all rounds myself.

We are guaranteed 2nd highest CC in Champions Route, behind only Olympiacos. Sparta Prague in Czech First League has higher CC but is already eliminated from championship contention so at best can make League Route, and we jumped Viktoria Plzen in CC this year. Other than that, we have better CC than any club in any of the remaining qualifying leagues with champions TBD.

Celtic are in a far stronger position compared to last years qualifiers. Remember we had an injury crisis in our defence and Villa was * is about with Sinclair so with a team playing regularly with each other this last year and with a fully fit Dembele hopefully it's smooth sailing and with what Rodgers promises Champions League quality signings I'm silently confident, at the same time it comes down to the luck of the draw and hopefully the bhoys don't have to travel half way across the world!

In reality what would we have to achieve in the next few years to be able to jump straight into the group stages?Last 16 for the next 3-4 years?

Next year it will be down to what club does individually so that Leicester thing doesn't happen again coz I think that's a farce

    Just gonna keep reiterating this.

I think we will do well to get a harder draw than last year.

The likes of Rosenborg and Malmo really don't scare me anymore with this squad playing and shaping up as it is. I'd see them as good draws.

What Leicester thing? They won their league and earned the right to be where they were in the competition.

First pot team with no European history of note in last five years I didn't say they didn't deserve to be in the competition but they didn't deserve to be first pot on back of other teams

No way the game would be played at Oriel. It would get moved at the very least to Tallagh if not maybe to Lansdowne Road if possible.

They were there on the back of being the English Champion. It didn't matter whether they had 120 coefficient points, or 0.000. That's how the competition is setup. There's nothing to say the new format will prevent the same from happening.

Incidentally, CSKA Moscow benefited from it this year. The year before Juventus, PSV, PSG and Zenit all benefited from it.

If they are gonna do it that way then all champions should be first pot teams regardless of past achievements then
