Weak link in this team

Armstrong ran show at BMG and City and put up a great show of himself at home to Barca- why do people still question if he's CL quality

 

I don't think anyone is , he is a great player and we are lucky to have him .

 

In paper I am happy with each individual we have. It's not like in years previous where we'd be going into huge games * ourselves over one player who would most like be caught out or targeted. If teams are going to target players like Mikael Lustig over the next season or two then we really are in a good place.

In terms of how we play, we are definitely going to be vulnerable defensively when we come up against defensively sound teams that counter attack well.

That being said I think we will cause most defences in European football problems, I genuinely do. We are playing some of the most exciting football I've ever seen us play and we have goals all over the park.

 

The weak link is in squad depth - quality over quantity and all that.

From there, we should be looking to not replace squad players with squad players, but actually replace the likes of bitton with someone better than Armstrong and brown. Thus making one of them the rotation.

Thats not to downgrade those two, who are immense. But to go forward, we need to improve on what we have - without lossing that as well, which in turn would make us weaker.

So say down the line, we have brown and Armstrong as back up to two better midfielders, then in 2 years we should be replacing brown with someone better than the other 2 again.

I think we need a bit of real class in midfield - a European with leadership qualities - someone to step-up on the big european nights - I really like that Lars Stindl from gladbach - a player like him

 

Agree with this, we need our bench to be as strong as our starting 11, which isn't always the case. BR wants this and always says the team that finishes the game is just important as the team that starts.

 

Brendan has turned so many players form around, but the difference in Armstrong is the greatest

 

Lars Stindl...I'd give my left nut to sign him.

No chance. Was watching him score against Dortmund and they were saying he was in double figures..

Top player. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes to a Dortmund or Epl over the next year..

Forgot about Right side with Paddy going. Someone of Sinclair's ilk that can play both wings and even up top now and again would be absolutely ideal..

 

Aye it's a total pipe dream. He'd cost upwards of £10 million, easy.

A right sided Sinclair is exactly what we could be doing with. Another player with pace, power and goals. Onyekuru looks like that sort of player.

 

Definitely need a real top class ball playing midfielder if we want to progress in Europe. It was painfully obvious in the two Monchengladbach games.

 

He's out of your price range, think he'd cost both.

 

It's a weird one this year as we can field a really good strong team we're confident can progress to at least CL group stages,sure it can be improved.Every other transfer window we're calling for this and that to be strengthened.I wouldn't replace any first team player unless it was going to be with a world class player.Great position to be in.

 

Yep. As good as Forrest has been, he's still really * when off form. Can't even remember him touching the ball when he came on the weekend. Excellent on his day but frustrating..

Someone more devastating with Shooders coming in and out would be ideal and the extra wow factor central playmaker that Rodgers definitely wants would be something else, but I don't think we're too bad if we don't get the latter..

 

It's a weird one. I think if we were to play against BMG again right now we'd beat them at home. We've improved a lot since the group stages. Players are more comfortable with the system/each other. Armstrong has improved further. Tierney is looking even better. Simunovic and Boyata are solid. Dembele is stronger. Roberts has been in fantastic form.

Of course we need a right winger when Roberts goes. But other than that, it's hard to see where we need to strengthen, other than the depth of the squad.

 

Defensive midfielder.

 

We need to get rid of a few passengers too, easier said than done tho.

Can't see many clubs biting our hand off for Bitton, Allan and GMS.
