Could it be that either Uefa and the big clubs have told us - Get your * together and be a big club, and we let you play. mOr that the likes of PSV etc have grouped us together and made a similar proposition? Be a destination that people want to come to again, and we can do a breakaway.

Would be an interesting theory, but either way I am just * glad that the whole area and the way we have went forward this season is going so well.

I dont think it is inconsistent to feel saddened by how money driven football is, but also realistic that your favourite team needs to be in a bigger market to improve and to ever have a chance of challenging at a european level.

I dont think of teams as '*' in scotland but when one team can buy and sell almost every other team in their league multiple times over, then I think the game is broken. That isnt any one clubs fault, but it isnt competitive it isnt really all that fun to watch. And that is far from unique to celtic as its happening more and more across europe.

Would certainly explain why the boat was pushed out for Rodgers which to this day I still cant believe they did lol. When you consider aswell he hasnt exactly been given a warchest to pull from, other than his love of the club I've wondered if something else has been promised?

    It's a double edged sword.

    More money? Great

Having to pay a shitload more for the same standard of player? Not so great

    More exposure? Great

Having a team filled with primadonna * with no loyalty to the club? Not so great

    Bigger market? Great

Having Celtic Park filled with tourists and day-trippers? Absolutely * terrible

A European league would definitely interest me though. There are number of teams on the continent in a similar situation to our own (huge distinct fan base, dominant domestically, constrained by the lack of finance in their domestic league etc). I don't really care much about the money but if we could increase the level of our competition while maintaining our identity I would be happy.

Couldn't that all be said for a natural progression of the spfl as well?
Give it 10 years, if scotland got a bumper tv deal and started to climb in the leagues I log European football. The prices of players and wages would go up, the quality of player would stick - though able to sign some of the bigger names. And with greater exposure and success, yeah the whole league would be hit with the tourist fans.
