This is nothing to do with Samaras' performence today. The two of them are too similar in the way they play, both wanting to drift wide and get the ball. We need a man who will play right through the middle and that man is not Skippy or Samaras. So for me it is a straight choice of who partners Venegoor when he is fit. The whole team were poor today so I would not blame Samaras in particular but the St. Mirren central defenders got an easy ride from both the front two.

totally agree. Its just insane to right the guy off. Criticism should be constructive. The guy has talent. There is no doubt about it. He was not so good today but we have seen he can have superb touch, speed and technique and a real ability to run into space (his runs were often missed today). One major problem with him is he is clearly not an out and out striker. He is one of those guys who plays somewhere between wide and striker (prob suite a 4-3-3 ) and if often not in the poaching spots when the ball comes in. He may be difficult to fit into the team with its 4-4-2. Same problem as Deeks but I have no doubt this guy has a lot more in his locker. As a guy who runs into space well he may suffer in the SPL with all this wattinatio that goes on.

i agree, suddenly the guy is *, pish etc. Apart from McGeady in spells every outfield player was poor today. How much service did the front 2 get today??? Nothing at all. To judge whether Skippy and Samaras can play together based on today is ridiculous. Lets hope today was just a hangover from wednesday and we go back to playing the way we did at Pittodrie

I have been contemplating the situation regarding the amount of threads slating players and the manager. I think it is down to the fact that for the first time in a good while we have found ourselves outside the comfort zone i.e. 10 points clear of the huns or nearest rivals at this point. I believe a little panic has desended upon some of the fans and they are jumping on anyone who * up. I could be wrong as I wasn't a member this time last year so cannot compare todays posts with those of last season. Looking at both Celtics stats and Rangers it's a close thing and we haven't been losing that many goals either even with our shaky defense and dodgy spell in November/December.The acid test will be the OF games, whoever comes out on top is gonnae win the league thus the mild panic attacks. Rangers have been jammy * as well as being a poor team. Some criticisms have been deserved albeit a bit ott. Cannot condone slating Samaras for one game though.

the thing is, if we are going to look at the 3/4 times he had possession today and judge him on that, i'm gonna judge him on his awesome touch and shot off the post against hearts, and the little spell when he looked lively at the end of Wednesday's game. You have to look at the lack of cohesion today as the main problem, not singling out 1 or 2 players. Today we looked far too content to dwell on the ball, every time a gap opened up there was no support and we ended up playing it back to Caldwell/Mick who then punted it 60 yards

Fair comment. St Mirren were no mugs either and one or two of their players were outstanding. Their defence was rock solid and they didn't let Celtic play in the midfield either, it wasn't until the last 20 minutes that Celtic seemed to dominate the midfield and looked like getting something.

Samaras is no JVOH he doesn't seem to stand toe to toe with his marker and muscle around. It looks like he wants to outrun these guys with the ball on the ground and maybe cruise in for the unmarked header occasionally.

Jan likes to outmuscle people, thats just his style, which is prob why he is an injury risk.

Ofcourse they can play together... Rooney and Tevez are really similiar for example (they both like to get back, drift about etc) and they get on fine. I think he'll be great for us even tho he did have a bad game.

He was pretty pish but it was a poor pitch and his first start for a long time.

He'll come good, thought he looked lively on Wednesday.

Agree with you 100%,some people on this forum our too quick to critisise,ok the guy had a bad game, but calling him a bad player on one performance is a bit premature I think,(Rmber Henriks first apperance)I also think the pitch didnt hepl his cause yesterday,(not making excuses up for him),but the guy has got talent, anyone with half a brain can see that,It was his first start for the club, give him a chance fucksake!!!We got the three points, its the sign of champions when you play bad & still win, some supporters on this forum do my * head in,they our sounded alot like Man u supporters now days!

I was at the game and he almost seemed as if he thought he was too good to play in that stadium against that team. He's used to playing in 30-75 thousand seater stadiums against english premier league opposition and now he's playing at Love Street against St.Mirren who were trying their hearts out in a very rough game.

I saw the first half only as second half I was hungry and went to chinese buffet for a late lunch. Samaras and McD did not link well at all. There was a point when McD was running at the defence and instead of Samaras running with him, searching for a gap for a probable through ball he stood and watched. Besides that however he had little chance to impress, he was very strongly marked and the midfield behind him was too slow on the attack and too negative and scared, the quick forward ball was usually sacrificed for a pass back to central defender.

Having said all this, a win is a win, from the first half I could see there would be little improvement in the second. Good he has a start under his belt, we will see what he can do in a better game for Celtic.
