    i think there is a misunderstaning here. Wanting young local or homegrown players to come through is not nationalistic. Its just a nostalgic thing about the dream of the wee celtic daft lad kicking a ball in a car park with a bunch of lads and one day ending up playing at CP. Its the wee laddie dream of the fan becoming a player. We all love that dream. Most had it until kids started losing the power of their legs because of computers. I still think there is a purity about that dream. Its only in the last decade or two the British game has become a money pit for greedy mercenaries hawking themselves to the highest bidder. Not sure thats a better ideal than the fan becoming a player. The great * money isnt everything. I blame thatcher for starting this mentality in Britain.

    I couldnt agree more, there will always be sense in having a youth policy because a) it can uncover "natural" players who can turn into real stars like Mick and Aiden, b) it can generate transfer money to help bring in players that make possible nights like yesterday evening, but there will NEVER be a 21st century Lisbon lions team anywhere in the world, it just aint possible, given the amount of money that is available to clubs like Baca and AC Milan etc.

    completely agree - thats why I like to see as many tims in the squad as possible, it makes me feel closer to the team, makes the connection between the support and the team stronger. That's also why I resent Strachan's ex-hun-reserve fetish so much as well....although admittedly Robson does look a player.

    Anyway McManus is the best Scot in the team, followed by (an in form) Wilson and Hartley. All tims. :bbpd: Brown is overrated as *. A midfield version of Kenny Miller, I just wish we had bitten Newcastle's hand off in August.
