If Marijuana was legal but alcohol wasn't, what would be the arguments for legalising

If Marijuana was legal but alcohol wasn't, what would be some arguments for legalising alcohol?

People always have tons of reasons for legalising Marijuana, but what arguments would people make for legalisation if alcohol was illegal and weed was legal?

(I stole this from reddit but I'd like to get some responses here).

Bonus question: Would there be any arguments in this instance for making weed illegal?

 

It makes life less stressful while watching Celtic.

The whole thing is a complete joke and does nothing to alleviate any idea that our whole * lives are being controlled and manipulated.

 

Aye, seen someone making this point recently. Think it was cause some American politician said that there was not much evidence that Marijuana could be used medicinally so it should be illegal and someone asked but alcohol isnt used medicinally and is legal.

It wouldn't make any difference. You could still buy alcohol from the same people you currently buy weed from.

The daily heil brigade would rage against alcohol instead of weed, purely because the other one was legal.

 

All drugs should be legal full stop.

When they are illegal they are more dangerous/unregulated, people take them anyway and instead of governments making money by taxing them drug dealers make fortunes.

Exactly.

MDMA would never kill one single person if it was regulated. Now though, it's illegal and * throw whatever the * they want into pills and people die as a result.. And that death is used as a reason for the drug to remain illegal.

A dangerous cycle. The war on drugs is eternally frustrating and the main reason we can never consider ourselves free.

Yip, always (for a long time)subscribed to the legalisation of all drugs. Making criminals of people that choose to take a substance is ludicrous.

It was actually made illegal because the hemp trade was making loads if folk money in the early 1900's,so they decided to make it illegal and in turn monopolize the hemp trade for the elite. It was actually compulsary to grow I on your farm on America at one point.

I actually got an email the other day from a petition I signed trying to legalize weed and it was the same old pish from the government. "it's harmful, no medicinal value, wouldn't stop the crime associated with it" etc etc. When infact the evidence coming out of America just now where its widely available proves they are full of *.

The main argument for me is that weed is * and alcohol is great craic.

 

I smoke weed daily and drink about 3 times a week and enjoy both but I know which one I'd choose if I had to and it wouldn't be the drink. It's killed half my family and my ma is a alcohalic,whereas weeds never killed a single soul.

 

There is that. I've personally never enjoyed weed, but you're right, alcohol is the far more dangerous of the two.
