Given the value of a goalscorer down south you can start negotiations at 10 million and then we'll talk.

We wouldn't entertain a penny less and anyone that thinks we would is deluding themselves to our recent transfer business.

No bother but I was meaning for ANY player who impresses in Scotland the ceiling price is £10-15M, not specifically Scottish Internationals. Unless as I said we landed some truly remarkable World Class young talent that you just knew was worth much more than £10-15M then we could maybe squeeze more then, like a modern day Henrik or something or a younger version of Lubo.

Then yes I would change my opinion if Griffiths started to develop the specific attributes I feel he's missing at that level plus the taking his limited chances then I would eat humble pie and hold my hands up.

I agree I'm probably being overly harsh setting the bar that high so will being that down to even a couple goals in CL Groups.

I disagree though on your Griffiths is a superior player than Hooper. It wasn't just that Hooper was a great poacher and would take his limited chances, it was also the fact that Hooper's overall game I feel is far superior to Griffiths up front, like his hold and link up play, his passing, his first touch and control, his 1v1s, his strength, decision making, his well timed runs and reading of the games, bringing others into play and his composure. Attributes that Griffiths just doesn't bring to that level enough to be effective as Hooper was. Not to mention probably the most important part of having good instincts and being in the right place at the right time and when you're in that position having the composure to finish that one or two only chances that our strikers find themselves getting at that level.

I'd love to be proved wrong but sadly I don't think I will.

a couple of different answers to this question:

how much is he worth to Celtic? 12 million

max we would currently be offered for him? 4 million

fact is, griffiths hasn't yet impressed at a high enough level to warrant a higher valuation than 4 million. top class SPL striker and saved us single handedly last season but games against aberdeen (away), rangers, malmo etc he's been anonymous. performance against astana hopefully signals that he'll make the step up this season under rodgers. another 40 goals this season including a few in the champions league this season and we can start the bidding at 12 million.

If you think there aren't English sides that would be willing to spend more than 4 million (pocket change) on him you are wired to the moon.

I think we should be insulted to get offered less than £10 million considering how sought after genuine goalscorers are these days. If he was playing down south and hitting even a bit less than he was up in Scotland you could argue him being £15-20 million, but because he plays in the SPFL he'll not be valued that highly unfortunately.

He had a year left on his contract so the question is fairly pointless.

Where are you seeing this? Searched on Google and Twitter and the only result is some random guy saying it on a Sunderland forum and everyone saying he's talking *.

A lot less than he was worth because he was in the last year of his contract and wanted to leave.

If he was scoring 20 goals a season down south, probably 7m to 10m.... 50 goals up here we'd be lucky to get 5m.

got 13 million for van dijk with two years left on his contract. 5.5 million for hooper was fair enough with 1 year left or 4 years left. griffiths wouldn't fetch more than 4 but i wouldnt sell for less than 12.

Van Dijk and Wanyama are different cases altogether.

Virgil has everything you want in a modern footballer whereas Wanyama is very good at what he does in a position which is hard to find quality in. Not to mention his performances in Europe.

They have the attributes required to be big successes in England or Europe in general and that has shown already. No surprise they both went for those figures.

Southampton probably wouldn't sell VVD for less than £30-40m now.

Agreed but even if he does I still think we'd do well to command the same fees.

Purely because of their attributes and positions, as I said.

Think if it was Dembele who scored 40 goals last season, he'd be worth 15-20 million. But with Griffiths being a Scotsman, he'd at most go for 10 million in today's market.
Like Rodgers said, his name is not exotic enough. If Dembele can score over or close to 30 this season, could see him become our new record sale next summer. Could honestly see some English or European team making bids upwards of 15 million.
