What's the world coming to.. Two more young people from the town hanged themselves this week , making it a total of 16 within the last year , and 13 other hangings in the Welsh valleys may be linked..

There was a story in the paper last week suggesting it may be an internet phenomonon where people are getting cult status on a website once they are dead.. Like a brick with their name added to the wall..

The Celtic Song so long as Dean Park doesn't sing it.
It's a real head scratcher this phenomenon. I wouldn't be surprised if it is an Internet cult - total waste of life and a warning on how the internet can influence the young to carry out insane acts. In America there is yet another student who blew his brains out after opening fire on students from a different school. It is becoming a crime of frightening regularity thereby becoming less of a shock when it happens unlike the Columbine or Dunblane horror. Very sad.

Its a * hole down here, I live about 15 mins from Bridgend and the surroundings has got to be something to do with it, nothing to do in the town for kids, has to be demoralising which would eventually lead to either drugs or depression.

its the surroundings, its a pretty bleek area with little job prospects for young people we had the same problem in belfast last year, it was all young unemployed men with no qualifications hanging themselves. there are plenty of options though and its the cowards way to go, must be horrible for he families

It's pretty similar over here with some of the native reserves, but 16 hangings in the year so far, unreal.

Often baffled me as well, Overkill, as to how people go about choosing the method of how they die.

Hanging would not be my choice either but what is clear is that there is some link with Internet chat rooms and this suicide cult/culture.

I remember listening to a programme on the radio about people who commit suicide in Japan. They meet up and go off and commit suicide together - I mean your talking about groups of eight people or so. There is not such a stigma about it as it is possibly seen as a noble thing to do if you can't cope with life.

I think it is very, very sad but indicative of the world we live in.

It is a problem which is only going to worsen as our young people struggle to cope with life as it is. Nobody can legislate for what is going on in another person's mind.

However, if they are deeply unhappy with who they are or, perhaps, things they have done then once their mind is made up it is probably then you will see them at their happiest and most content.

    * Rest their souls and I pray that their parents somehow cope with their grief.

Very, very tragic loss of life.
