The formation of his I liked best was his Liverpool 4312/433. It was what happened at the back I liked the most, where the full backs went forward and Stevie G. dropped right back into the middle of the two CBs who flanked him. He then controlled the ball from the back and the CBs were able to cover inside and out. Maybe not how we'd setup in Europe, but as many have mentioned here, having two holding DMs and one striker in the league is not the way forward.

We need to stretch teams that will sit in deep and create lots of pockets through good movement taking opposition players out of position.

Eric is a first name of the team sheet kind of guy, but on the other side i'd maybe look at Mulgrew. Adds experience but also the ball-playing defender capability we need.

The hard position to fill is that deep lying playmaker role that Gerrard was excellent at. I think Bitton has the tools, but sometimes not the brain or balls for that role. Broony maybe, but he's more of a square ball guy, we need a good range of passing from deep. Its perhaps a position Ajer might be useful at, but I can't see him being a starter off the bat, he'll need time to settle - not even sure if he's all that good!

Our wing backs are pretty settled. In the middle guys with a bit of buzz, who can score will be the order, so McGregor, Johansen stand out to me, perhaps Armstrong might have a chance, and hopefully Rogic fits in somewhere.

Up top, Griffiths and Roberts are good options, but the third position is one we could do with filling (thinking Inside Forward).

As a 433, maybe something like:

    Gordon
    Lustig Eric Mulgrew Tierney
    Bitton (or Brown)
    McGregor Johansen (again maybe Brown/Armstrong)
    Roberts Griffith Christie/New Inside Forward

    As a 4312:

    Gordon
    Lustig Eric Mulgrew Tierney
    Bitton/Brown
    McGregor Johansen
    Rogic
    Griffiths Roberts/New Forward

Isn't the defensive midfield role that you talk about Ajer's role, assuming he is good enough ? I would like to think he is as he is highly rated.

Pretty good for his first full season of football.

    Rosenbrg and Hibs combined...

    60 Games
    10 Goals
    14 Assists

Just turned 20 about 3 weeks ago.

By playing that number of games too and then getting a good months rest he will probably come back next season much more physically ready.

Has all the tools too, good movement, good in possession, smart player and technically very good, probably the best set peice taker in the country at both shooting and crossing from corners/freekicks.

If you compare him to McGregor, Henderson has more natural talent and Henderson was doing in the under 19s/reserves at 17 what McGregor was doing at 19/20, scoring hat-tricks and near enough scoring every other game despite being less of a natural attacking player.

I think so aye. I've not seen anything of him though and at 17/18 its a big ask to have a guy move to new new club and country and start pulling the strings in midfield! I've heard he plays pretty much everywhere right through the middle, centre half to striker, but the deeper CM role is his preferred position.

Definitely one i think we'll see develop, but being pragmatic, we'd need to start with one of the guys who are already here.

You never know, he may live up to the hype and be amazing from the off. With his height it certainly wouldn't hurt seeing as its a CB/DM role.

Aye, would be good. Be great to have a manager that gives them a chance in games that are over. Look at KT, Roberts, if it's in them they will survive and shine.

Lack of height in that team. Would it be mental to play Griffiths on the left and CKR through the middle?

Interesting to see how you would set out the midfield. It was a formation more for European games. Two internationalists one captain of club and country, granted not had the best of seasons, but both have proven track records, and it would allow the attacking 3 in midfield a more creative role feeding griffiths.

Never put in another striker as we are short on them just now, not linked with any and I have no idea who is available and who we can afford

    . Gordon

    Janko erik jozo tierney

    Rogic brown/(new sig) mcgregor

    Roberts griffiths (new signing)

Would consider giving ajer a chance in the middle CM role.

Also maybe a new RB if janko doesn't cut it, I fear lustigs best days are behind him sadly :(

I think Key players are going to be: erik, rogic, Roberts, Tierney and griffiths

I think the players nailed on for a starting place are Gordon, Sviatchenko, Tierney, Roberts and Griffiths.

Lustig and Brown are important, experienced players but they're starting to look a little weary. Lustig played a lot last season, which is unusual for him, and Brown often struggled playing through injury. It all depends on how they fare.

Then you have Bitton and Johansen who struggled for form all season, after being brilliant the year before. If they are fit and on form - they start.

If we had a qualifier tomorrow, I'd go for something like:

    Gordon

    Lustig Sviatchenko Mulgrew Tierney

    Brown/Bitton

    Armstrong McGregor

    Roberts Griffiths Christie

Armstrong and McGregor both look better in the central area, and both are decent technically and pretty mobile. Brown can still play an important role if he's back to fitness.

I'd play Christie just off the left of Griffiths, but encourage him to tuck in so he's not isolated. Tierney can provide width down the left.

EDIT: I'm always forgetting about Ajer. I think he could probably play the sitting role very well.

    If it's a 4-3-3

    Gordon/Fasan

    Janko/Lustig
    new CB /Jozo
    Erik/Mulgrew
    Tierney/Izzy or new signing

    Brown/Ajer (holding)
    Johansen / Henderson
New CM (naw sure who) / Armstrong

    Roberts / GMS
New signing Russell or Snodgrass / Christie

    Thumb / New striker

Leaving allan and Rogic who I like but don't know where to fit then in , can see Bitton getting sold aswell as the rest of squad

Really depends on who we offload and sign. Rodgers strength is in development. I would like to see this in a 4-3-3.

    Gordon

    Lustig
    Sviatchenko
    Simunovic
    Tierney

    Bitton
    Brown
New centre midfielder(possibly britton or allen)

    Roberts
    Griffiths
    Henderson

Obviously depending on recruitment this could all change but I would like to see something like that.
