did no one watch the interview with lawrie-ann brown on celtic tv where samaras stated he was here to win a full time contact, he stated hes here to win trophys and compete in the champions league. she also said there is speculation that theres a crelease clause in his contact and samaras did not confirm nor did he deny it. just repeating hes here to win a contact with celtic.

It would be extremely foolish if we didn't have a clause..Have to had learned something from Bellamy..

Scottish Premier League - Celtic loan Samaras - Yahoo! Eurosport UK

That says around 2.5mill option at the end of the season as did the Record, and the Times.

I'm pretty sure if he has a good loan spell Celtic will sign him and here's why: His name is pretty much mud down in the EPL so i doubt any one will take a chance on him. I think his game is suited to the SPL because its similar to Holland where he made his name scoring goals for fun. He said he wants to play in the Champions league theres not that many teams he could go to who can offer that every season. He wants to win trophys! Celtic will win trophies.
I dont think the question is will he stay i think it is will Celtic want him to stay! OK he had a good debut but so did Juninho and look how that ended up...
Personally i think he could be an exellent player for us and i think if we want him depending on Man Citys valuation of him we will get him! but the jury still out on this one:43:

The chances are that if we want him too he will stay. Man City have a great manager who ahsn't has time for Samaras and with City getting stronger Eriksoon will buy more talent hense Sammaras will want to play wiht us as he will get a game more often thus keeping him in the spotlight for the national team,

All in all then, no one REALLY knows if we could lose him or not should he do well.

I think it was a fantastic piece of business, and I was hawking him around in conversation for a while before we got him! :icon_mrgreen:

He was one of the hottest properties in Europe when he signed for City over Arsenal, and remember he often got saddled with being a lone spearhead for one of the most inept teams in the premiership under Pearce, who created about a chance every game and a half, and scored even less!!

This guy is well worth £2.5m... same as Magic was but with youth on his side should things go awry.

I just wish we had bitten the bullet and paid upfront, if that was an option.

Imo, I don't believe there is a set figure on the table with City, which means if he does really well we could be looking at about £5m in the summer.

    Hail, Hail!

celtic seal loan deal for georgios samaras

    Paul Cuddihy
CELTIC have signed Greek striker Georgios Samaras on a loan deal from Manchester City until the end of the season. The club also has the option of making the deal a permanent one.

And the 22-year-old, who has already won 12 caps for Greece, is determined to do everything he can to help Celtic in their bid for a third consecutive title.

Samaras began his professional career with Dutch side, Heerenveen, having moved from Greece at the age of 16. He made his first-team debut in season 2003/04 and went on to make a total of 88 league appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals before Manchester City bought him in 2006.

Where I see the problem, and it's already been said, is if Samaras has a brilliant four or five months at Celtic and does well in Euro 2008, there'll be a queue to sign him up. That's where it'll hang in the balance IMO.[/quote]

    I agree with you there.
When I looked at us getting Samaras on loan my reading of the deal was that it was a loan but if both Celtic and Samaras like how it goes a deal was already in place to make the move permanent.

Obviously we all want him to do well and be a big hit and I think the signs look good in that regard. My biggest worry always was that he would have a great season with us be rejuvenated and be a big hit with Greece at the Euro Finals then attract offers from much wealthier clubs then us and thus we lose him at seaons end.
But I guess at the end of the day that is all just speculation. He looks like a very good guy to have in for now and hopefully he will help us to a third straight spl title at the very least.

He's here to help us win the league this season, anything else ontop of that is a bonus imo.

I think WGS will monitor him for the rest of the season. If he's up to job then he'll get Lawell to buy him.

Not as if we're rangers

i reckon the board will have to finance him IF all goes well, as you say its a bit optomistic to say he's the solution to big jans lack of form so far and bearing in mind we were already 4-1 up at the time when he scored but here's hopin fingers crossed!

fingers crossed he does a job for us and shows the potential and ability we saw of him at Heerenveen. I think if he does this then Strachan will make Lawell aware that he wants him on board before him leaving for Euro 2008 as he could go there and have a great campaign and that would just add value to his transfer fee. If the price agreed between Celtic and Man City is around the £2-3m mark then i cant see there being a problem if he does well. On saturdays display, we saw he has the ability and still has the skill i just feel the lad needs his confidence back and hopefully he can gain that with us and enjoys his time here.

for such a big guy he can shift! watched alot of his goals on you tube and man he can finish aswell! he's got youth on his side too so I think it would be a very good signing if we can finalise a deal! Some are saying wait and see If he's going to be the answer to our prayers, but just look at when we signed bellamy....we were begging for a permenent deal! I do hope Lawell and Strachan don't wait till he's banging in the goals as there will be major competion for his signature... and I hate to admit it! but we can't even compete with teams like wigan, bolton etc! so the sooner the better!
