"In one year I think it is right for the fans and everybody to judge me" - Ronny Deila, August 28th 2015.

If not a calendar year, then it's certainly been a year in football terms and the verdict is in Ronny: failure.

The unquestionable failure of Champions League qualification as a seeded team throughout, despite creating favourable scenarios such as a 1-1 draw in Slovenia and being 2-0 up v Malmo at home after 10 minutes.

The unquestionable failure of not achieving his promise of a super-fit team that would press and hound the opposition. Shown up on that by Sevco of all teams.

The unquestionable failure of leadership, whereby we crumble psychologically around big games and when the opposition takes the lead.

The unquestionable failure to organise a defence despite deploying 2 defensive mids theoretically at least. 40 goals conceded in 26 Euro games one example.

The unquestionable failure to demonstrate tactical flexibility, whilst continuously changing the team and making the wrong subs.

The unquestionable failure to negate his European failures with another double, yet alone a treble.

The unquestionable failure to adhere to his 'development' credentials. Most players he inherited have regressed, badly in some cases.

The unquestionable failure in signings: we've made 22, with Denayer & Gordon the only successes that can't really be argued against.

The unquestionable failure in style of football. It's pedestrian; both now when we expect Roberts to do everything or earlier when we launched the ball to Carlton Cole.

Now of course the board are the main creators of our decline. A utter failure to build from a position of strength, 4 years wasted. But even within such limitations; for instance player wise we need a total rebuild in the summer; Deila should have done far, far better than he has done.

Unless there's evidence to the contrary, I'm sure Ronny is an honourable gentleman and I genuinely wish him all the best in an environment where he's less likely to be out of his depth.

    Enough is enough.

The Lennon argument is laughable he took over one of the worst teams in recent history he had a squad not just a team to rebuild he actually showed signs of progress as well

Both managers took over at teams who were on the decline. The team Deila inherited was finished. Lennon obviously inherited a poorer team, but at least he got money to spend.

The team Ronny inherited was on the rise, just got 99 points in the league, was free wcoring and a massive improvement from the start of the season. Lets not make things up.

People tend to forget all the players the team lost in a short period of time too. Forster, Hooper, Samaras, Ledley, Wanyama, Wilson...... the heart of the team was ripped out.

Agreed probably, although the difference in quality between what Lennon inherited and what Deila inherited was a gaping * chasm. The team Lennon inherited wasn't so much in decline as it had bottomed out, the team Deila inherited needing fine tuning. Based solely on the fact he's still playing those 'finished' players it's a poor reflection on him.

Lennon obviously inherited a poorer team, but at least he got money to spend.

Agreed, he did inherit a much, much poorer team. Relative to most Celtic managers, Deila actually inherited a very good side.

According to Celticwiki, if you look at the period from July 2014 to January 2016 (his last transfer window), Deila spent just under £13m on bringing players in, excluding what must be fairly decent loan fees. Looking at the same period under Lennon (July 2010 to January 2012) Lennon spent just under £9m. For that he brought in the likes of Lustig, Wanyama, Matthews, Watt, Commons, Wilson, Stokes, Forster, Izaguirre, Kayal, Hooper, Ledley and Mulgrew.

Sure, but keep in mind we sold Forster because Deila managed to lose 6-1 to Legia in CL 3Q. We cashed in because we thought we were out of CL that year (and well we wound up being out eventually anyway). Obviously there will always be monster budget teams that will force our hand on transfers out, but the team composition would sure look a lot different if Deila hadn't failed to qualify us for CL two years running, costing us tens of millions.

The whole spine had gone from team Deila inherited. It was a total rebuilding job again not fine tuning.

Only players who are regularly in the squad that are left from Lennon's CL season are Lustig, Mulgrew and Brown

He didn't really. He still had forster for the legia game which we still lost. If anything it was the same, he also added denayer and arguably had a better defence than any of Lennon's sides.

You could also argue that Lennon had lost the spine of his team with Wilson, Wanyama and Hooper all leaving before the champions league qualifiers and he still managed to get us through.

If... a decision was made to appoint a manager/director of football and he was solely responsible for the training and development side I'd be delighted to see him stay, and maybe even be given a second chance in a couple of years. No chance of that though, so I'd look to make everything as amicable as possible in the close season and start sounding things out with prospective replacements now

He still depends on Lustig, Brown, Bitton, Johansen, Rogic and Griffiths all here before he signed. He had Tierney already here who might not have been given a start were it not for Izzys red card in Ajax. He has failed to find us a decent winger.

The only area he has made progress in is the centre of defence. Even here we are weaker than last season with the loss of Lenny's VVD and his only major success(hopefully Erik can be added but too early to say) a year long loan signing.

    * all has happened to them, the game is changing at a breakneck speed, and has certainly changed since 2011/2012.

More English sides have more money these days, so the chances of snaring a player like Ledley, Commons & Matthews ahead of them is becoming less and less likely.

Championship sides such as Brentford, Wolves, Burnley & Bristol City are matching us when it comes to wages and fees these days, which wasn't the case five years ago.

*, even the likes of Derby County, Leeds and Middlesbrough are paying fees of £3 million and up.

The problem now is that the money injected into English football a few years back by Sky has now been spread among more lower EPL and Championship clubs by way of the ridiculous fees that the top clubs are paying now.

£3.5 million from Liverpool to Charlton for Gomez, the same amount from Spurs to Burnley for Trippier, £2 million from Wolves to Huddersfield for Connor * Coady?

Obviously this doesn't mean that we can't find any bargains today (before someone jumps in on that!), but it undoubtedly makes it much tougher.
