He is a great player, no doubt about it but im a little worried that he won't be able adopt to the SPL, just like Juninho.

    Re: Nakamura

Reggina insist they're in no rush to sell midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura to Celtic.

The Italian club's spokesman, Daniele Rindone, said: "It looks like there will be a meeting during the week, on Tuesday or Wednesday.

"The plan is to have a meeting in Glasgow or Milan. Our president, Lillo Foti, is in Calabria and would be ready to fly to Glasgow on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

"Reggina want the meeting to take place and then we can look at the situation after that." Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has pleaded with chief Peter Lawwell to tie up the playmaker's £2.7million move before Thursday's Champions League deadline.

    Good piece on Nakamura

Shunsuke Nakamura fans are closely monitoring internet football sites today. July 20th is the deadline Celtic have set to finalize the transfer negotiations for Japan's current "It" player.
The Scotland League club would like to have papers signed so that they can pen in new player names for tomorrow’s European Champions League
    registration deadline.

But while those around him may be tapping their fingers with some impatience, Japanese fans understand what a difficult decision this is proving to be for the man himself.

Up to now, what was the biggest turning point in Nakamura’s career?

If you ask Japanese football fans, many will probably reply "The day he
got cut from the Japan/Korea World Cup 2002 squad."

After entering Yokohama Marinos in 1997 and proceeding to earn the
number ten jersey there, he was poised as part of the "golden midfield
quartet" to make his mark on the world at football’s biggest event. Japan
supporters were ready for party mode, as they prepared to welcome the
world to their country as co-hosts for one of the world’s biggest
sporting events. And with the beloved midfielders Hidetoshi Nakata, Shinji
Ono, Junichi Inamoto and Shusuke Nakamura, it would be the strongest
Japan team yet. But then-Japan National Team Manager Philippe Troussier,
who had drawn a very strict blueprint for the team, was not impressed
by the lefty’s flair for playmaking and did not feel he could contribute
to the physical defensive style he had in mind for the team.
Troussier’s seat was empty when the roster announcement was made, and many
Japanese fans still remember Nakamura’s careful comments seconds after the
announcement was made, that he will need to think about what he is
lacking as a footballer and what he needs to do to improve.

Three years later, he reflects back on that disappointment with a
solemn but glass-half-full attitude. "There probably aren’t that many
players in the world who were that close to being on a World Cup squad and
yet completely out," he’s said repeatedly in interviews throughout the
past year, "It was a valuable experience that I wanted to use for my own
    growth."

The pre-paved path to glory had crumbled. Not only was the door to the
World Cup closed to him, an impending offer possibility from dream team
Real Madrid was shut down as well. Nakamura knew that the only thing
he could do was plan for the next World Cup 2006. He immediately took
the first European transfer offer he could get -- to Serie A club
Reggina. His main aim was to challenge himself in an environment that
demanded a stronger mental, physical and technical performance from him. In
Italy he confronted supporters who were not satisfied with merely
seeing pretty plays -- they wanted results. Not only that, the physical
aspects of the Italian league convinced the relatively skinny midfielder
to think of bulking up. His endeavours to put on mass in his second
year abroad backfired when the sudden addition of bulk and weight slowed
him down and affected his characteristic quick footwork. He also spent
much of that second year off the pitch trying to recover from various
    injuries.

In 2004, the World Cup Germany Asian qualifiers began. Zico continued
to place his faith on the sometimes inconsistent game-maker. Zico
wanted a team that could play both creatively and intelligently -- for
this, he felt that the experienced Europe-based players had the advantage.
The first two qualifiers against Oman and Singapore revealed the
weakness of a star-studded Japan squad: with players arriving just a day
before games, it was difficult to play with any cohesion as a team.
Nakamura himself had gotten married the morning of the Oman game but failed
to capitalize on any good luck that evening when his penalty kick was
    slapped away.

For Nakamura, who had already tasted the bitter bile of missing out on
the World Cup, warning bells sounded. This cannot happen again -- so
he decided to structure his entire year around the Japan national team
schedule. He hired a personal trainer who could help him develop
strength without taking away from his technique or fluidity. As the Serie A
season came to an end, the contemplative player resolved to make his
mark on the team during the Asia Cup by taking Japan to the top. If he
hadn’t, he revealed later, he was convinced that he would once again
find himself taken out of the team in 2006. Japan came out Asia
Champions, and Nakamura’s name was spotlighted when he received the MVP award.

The 2005 qualifying games continued to be a bumpy road for Japan, but
Nakamura now had his routine down. He had continued the practice of
counting down to national team gamedays and building his fitness up
accordingly. Reggina Manager Mazzari was sensitive to this Japanese player’s
feelings about the World Cup -- particularly with regard to
exacerbating injuries prior to international games. In the eyes of Japanese
supporters, he had begun to redeem himself. He showed that he had both
toughened and smartened up, not to mention matured. Previously shunning a
leadership-type role, he has recently been developing a larger sense of
responsibility with regard to the overall team, not just worrying about
himself. In the last two qualifier games again Bahrain and North
Korea, when the road to Germany was just within their grasp but the team
was wobbling, he injected confidence and determination to his teammates.
"We have nothing to fear; we just have to play our style of football.
We will get the win today," he said calmly from the stands, sitting out his ban
and watching his teammates get the job done.

With the ticket to the World Cup safely tucked in Zico’s pocket, and a
Confederations Cup performance that hinted at the return to the Japan
Style, Nakamura is still not breathing a sigh of relief. "I don’t have
any sense of certainty or joy about the World Cup yet," was his general
response to media questions. "First, I have to make sure I play a lot
in the league season and contribute to the team. Then, I have to make
sure I keep up my fitness and try and tend to injuries properly. Then,
I would have to keep up my performance with the national team. Then,
I’d have to be called to the World Cup roster. Then, I’d have to stand
on the pitch at the World Cup. Then, we’d have to win games. And only
then, I think I’ll even remotely be satisfied."

With less than a year to go until Germany, the transfer offer from
Celtic was not exactly what most Japanese have in mind for the former
Yokohama Marinos boy. Reggina have set a rather high bar for the transfer,
and only Celtic have shown up with check in hand. The plan is for both
sides to meet today in Glasgow and make the final decision.

It had been a long time dream for Nakamura to play in the Spanish
league, and though there had been interest, no one was able to match the
asking price. For the Japanese star, it is absolutely not about the
money. What is most important is finding a team that would allow him to
play in as many games as possible and a league that would give him
inspiration to develop creatively and physically. Joining Celtic has its
advantages over remaining in Reggina. Celtic is a strong team, and their
players and game concept is more sophisticated than at Reggina. Their
manager Gordon Strachan has been enthusiastically campaigning to
acquire Nakamura -- perhaps an indication that he will proactively develop a
    good relationship if he transfers.

On the other hand, there are many risks involved with transfering to a
new league/team. The culture change, the language, the chemistry with
new teammates, gaining the trust of everyone on the team -- this will
eat away at the valuable time remaining until next summer. There is
also the question of whether the Scotland league’s style will do Nakamura
any good. Will it restrict him? Will it inspire him?

As we wait to hear the decision, the image that comes to mind is of
Nakamura’s face when he learned he did not make the World Cup squad. It
all leads up to this. Whatever the announcement, Japanese football fans
will faithfully follow his progress and pray that at least this man
will be able to finally make one of his dreams come true.

He might just be the key to making this new team work. Sutton in mid and Stan on the right is last seasons downfall IMHO.

As some of the other members said that no wonder we didnt score any goals in the friendlies is coz the strikers had no supply from the midfield. I think that Nakamura will be a great signing becoz he supplys the strikers and has great creativity. If we get him am sure * be a great signin.
