50 miles of Sean telling you how mis-understood he is on TalkCeltic - that's got to be worth getting sponsored for.

I got my bike today. I was going to get a proper mountain bike but luckily the guy that served me had been doing Pedal for Scotland for years and said if I'm going to be doing mostly road riding then I'm better off with a hybrid bike. He used a mountain bike for the first couple of years then changed to a hybrid and knocked over an hour off his time.

    Apollo Belmont.

I'm not setting up a just giving page until I get used to the bike and am 100% sure I can handle the 55 miles.

Couple of months of intense training will let me know where I am then I can do it.

I've tried everything else (gym, running etc...) and nothing has worked because I didn't have a goal to aim at. This gives me something to work towards.

I know someone it has worked wonders for mate, got his life back on track after cancer and everything.

Done a lot of these since then and he says the miles can just drift away from you when you get in the zone.

Soon as you're confident mate set the page up :50:

This guys in his 50's btw.

Aye, there is that I guess. I've read that a lot of folk give up the gym after new year because their aim is "getting fit", which is pretty vague.

A solid goal can work wonders. You should do a progress report in this thread, keep us lazy * up to speed and no doubt shaming us all in the process! :smiley-laughing002:

Need to do something mate, walking a flight of stairs is starting to become a chore.

I want to see my daughter grow up but I'm a prime candidate for a heart attack if I don't change my lifestyle.

There's your biggest motivation right there, I'm only 27 but need to get a grip, don't do anything active anymore, don't eat right and drink heavily.

Stepping up to do something about it is the first stage.

Keep the head up, hopefully it's something you can get right into :50:

£199 mate. They had one at £129 but the seat was so small I would have to get it surgically removed for the first few months.

55 miles in a day . Most I did in a day was 74 miles across the roads on north Pennines . I did it on a proper mountain bike . If you can get out 2 or 3 times a week and do between 15 miles and 20 miles a time . Within about six weeks you should be up to doing the 55 miles. It all is about pacing yourself. If you can average 12 mph you be able to do this in about 6 hrs including rests. I have just bought a turbo trainer from machine mart and I an
M using this to build up my fitness and stamina for the spring. Good luck cycling can really be addictive. Just keep an eye on your bike as it might no hack all the miles. It is usually the chain and gears that become a pain in the ares for breaking.
