THE incredible scenes in the wake of Celtic’s 7-0 destruction of Motherwell will live long in the memory of Erik Sviatchenko as he heads off for his first summer break as a title winner at Celtic.
The Hoops defender was blown away by the celebrations as the Bhoys lifted the title in Paradise after firing a magnificent seven past Mark McGhee’s men, and he said the result and title party was the perfect way for the club to bid farewell to Ronny Deila.
“It was really special,” he said. “It was amazing. The atmosphere was so good and people were all united about this title, the way trophy day should be.
“This game was one of the best. We really showed a good display and the goals were amazing. The one I remember was Stuart Armstrong’s. I’ve never seen anything like it so that was positive.
“Tom Rogic’s unbelievable skill in playing in Ryan Christie was amazing too. It was a good day. It’s the biggest score in my career and especially on a day like this it’s something to remember.
“It’s always nice to have an ending like this because it’s the last thing you remember in some ways. We’re finishing off a season and two years with the manager, so to give him that farewell is amazing.
“It’s always disappointing when a manager leaves, especially when he is one of the reasons why you came to a club. Before I came I also took him out of the equation before signing for Celtic and it was a still a good decision so I’ll keep on going and wish the best for Ronny Deila.”
It has been a whirlwind start to life at Celtic for Danish defender Sviatchenko, who joined the Bhoys in January and he added that he’s only getting started at the champions.
Expectations are high at the club but after tasting his first trophy success, he insists he’s thriving under the pressure and is looking forward to helping the Celts pick up more silverware next season.
“The expectations are something I have in myself as well and to be at a club that has expectations of not just being ordinary but extraordinary means it is a good place to be,” he said. “Hopefully next year it’ll be even better.
“We’re doing better and better. In this game the handbrake was pushed away. We need to play like that, with confidence, and if we can do that, the team showed today that it has more than enough to be ready for the challenges it will face.”

 

This guy is going to be * tremendous next season. Got all the makings of a hunskelper.

 

Was looking at his instagram there ,quite found of a post he is. He looks absouletly wrecked from his new baby.

 

I like him.

I can take that he's not the quickest. He will need to read the game better to make up for that though.

One thing that he needs to stop though is the grabbing. I know everyone does it but he seems to do it quite a bit.

Expecting big things next year from him though.

 

His ability to carry the ball out of defence and find a pass will be invaluable as we look to build from the back .

Been really impressed by this guy. Have said a couple of time it reminds me of when Lustig signed. Comes from Scandinavia after a full season, having to settle into a new country and a new group of players - but you can tell there's a player there.

With that 5 months or so and a full pre-season behind him, he'll fly next year.

What a man, cutting about in his Celtic gear - wish every player was like him.

 

I like him more and more every day. Defo a stick on for the captaincy.

I know he's become a sort of cult hero but apart from the mutant game I don't get what all the fuss is about. Really hope he has a good season though

 

mental - the guy is by far the best center back in the league and he's probably the second most consistent player in the entire league too, second only to Tierney.


He's VVD come again, only a little shorter and a little less physical. He makes up for it by being better in the air (both offensively and defensively). You have to realise he's often playing with Boyata and therefore doing 2 peoples jobs.

 

Worst thing about him i can see him being the next big money sale maybe even as soon as next summer.
Maybe not 10+million but he is epl bound if he wants it.

 

Love this big guy will be a huge player for us next season
