He is going to have to dig deep for something mate. Because any more of the same and he wont be here.

It's a shame too because I think he has a decent long term plan but the sad reality is that at Celtic, if you don't take care of the here and now then you aren't going to get that time.

That isn't directed at just Ronny either.

Mate as everyone is trying to point out. He doesn't and won't have the players to make his strategy to work. * I could write a book on all factors restricting this. But the point you made about time would be the big one. Lawell has dropped Ron in it. And I think he is too nice a guy.

I think this is a slight overeaction, a treble has been won 10 times before, so that is like 1/6 seasons their has been a treble on average, as the league cup only started after ww2, and given it has never been easier to win one, it isn't that unreasonable to be disapointed not to win one considering we havent in the last few seasons.

It really is. Can't remember who (pundit) it was earlier but they said he has to win a treble now as well...whit :97:

If that's his minimum a season then we'll be packing bag's pretty much every year..

We have won 3 in our history.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Are you telling me that one teams demise has devalued cup competitions so much that it should now be a given that we win one these?

    Get a grip.

    It isn't at all.

It's an overreaction to expect one now. Or at any time. 2003 was the last time a treble was won, 12 years ago. Football has developed quite a bit in the last 12 years as have the teams. Perhaps not in quality but certainly tactically.

It isn't impossible but it does require a LOT of things to go in your favour, in terms of playing well and even refereeing decisions as well, luck is a major factor in winning 3 tournaments in the space of 1 season. Last season, we certainly didn't have that luck, and in previous years we just haven't been good enough in all the games to achieve it, but that's football and football players as gutting as it can be at times.

Again, I am no fan of Scottish football but to claim it has never been easier is pish. If anything, it is even harder. Teams are going all out to try and get one over the "big boys" and do a job on us because they know it is such a one horse race realistically. That coupled with our European commitments makes the job even more difficult. And when you consider how lightly we have invested in the team over the last few years, it is no wonder we could potentially go up to Inverness in the Scottish Cup and get beat after playing away in the EL on the Thursday previous.

Look it could happen, I hope to * it does like everyone else, but don't base the season's achievements here on out on winning the treble because you're giving the team and management whoever it may be very very little chance.

Just looking at the poll results, it's in favour of Ronny staying now,
    not surprising really.

Scottish football isn't harder now than before mate :smiley-laughing002: hyperbole like this is one of the reasons things get so heated and just pushed more people towards wanting Deila out imo. There is NO realistic challenge domestically. Deila had it tough in the sense the league is an absolute given so hey gets no real credit for it, but at the same time a treble takes a very high level of consistency.

I didn't say Scottish football was harder now. Hence my quality/tactics comment. The mentality of the teams we play is however. There is more determination in teams now to get one over us and players give performances of their careers against us to try and pull it off. Even then it's not enough, but sometimes, if we have an off day as football players of all levels do from time to time, then it is.

    You think that's hyperbole?

That was a very well thought out post imo.

Has one team's demise really devalued cup competitions so much in this country that winning a treble should now be a given? Scottish football isn't that bad mate that we can't lose a one off game.

How does an innocuous post about trebles make someone want Ronny out more anyway? :43:

Out of the reasons you gave for Scottish football being harder I disagree with all of them.

Teams try harder against us now? Show me some evidence of that. There's absolutely nothing to support it imo.

European commitments? We've always had them.

Lack of investment? Again, it's been an issue for years.

Sean - you asked why a post like this makes people start to question Deila more; it's because, for me at least it's so unsubstantiated - exactly the same as some one in the group that want Deila out said there were absolutely no positive points from last season. It's am taking things to a very extreme view.

Just look at our game at Aberdeen we lost 2-1, evidence right there of a team who were going all out to beat us and did, because we had an off day. They know it's a one horse race so they were going gung-ho to show themselves as a legitimate challenger, which has now obviously fallen flat in its face.

Hearts at home, 0-0 draw. They had players throwing their bodies in the way of everything, we battered them for that whole second half. They too wanted to show they can try and launch some sort of challenge, that they were good enough to gain a point at our ground. It won't surprise me if we see the same attitude from them on Wednesday.

Teams want to beat us, they want to disrupt us. They are just as aware that it's a walk-over for us and they don't like it. Why would they? They're professionals, they have every right to make life as difficult as possible for us and they generally do a decent job, that coupled with performances which are below the required standards from ourselves.

When you also consider you have the likes of John Collins calling into question their ability, is it any wonder they've got the bit between their teeth more than usual?

Playing Europa League football as we have the last 2 seasons on a Thursday night is not ideal preparation going into games at the weekend. It is something we have addressed this season which should be commended but it was a given in previous seasons, game after Europe was going to either be dropped points or extremely hard fought.

The investment issue has been an issue for years, which adds to my argument about a treble being increasingly difficult to achieve. That basically backs up what I'm saying.

I fail to see how an issue that has been there for years (the investment issue) makes think even more difficult in the here and now.

Sorry but I just don't agree that teams are now trying harder with Ronny at the helm. We've been the biggest scalp for a long time, and we've always dropped points now and again. It's unfair, on both opposition players and our own, to say the guys of yesteryear simply weren't trying hard.

Playing on a Thursday is probably marginally more difficult than playing on a Tuesday or Wednesday, however ultimately Deila takes the blame for that one :smiley-laughing002:

It's not harder, it's just the same. that's why we've only won three.

Investment issue hasn't exactly made it any more difficult in its own right, but it hasn't helped and has added to the difficulty of the situation. That's my point, it's basically loads of small things culminating together.

I'm not saying teams are trying harder, or that we weren't. I can see how it comes across that way so I'm obviously not putting it across well but what I mean is the situations are completely different from then and now. It's went from 2 teams fighting it out for the title each season and trying to outdo each other every week to 1 team in it and a case of going through the motions until the end of the season. Opposition players see this and don't fancy it. They hear John Collins questioning their technical ability and don't like it. They know it's a forgone conclusion we will win the league, possibly the cups but when they play the main team in the country they want to prove we are not going to have it all our own way and go all out to disrupt our season. If we've played in Europe or have suspensions/injuries and generally have a bad day then there's very chance they could beat us.

It's not to say other teams in the past haven't thought this or tried hard, but I think it acts as more a motivation for teams now, beat the best team in the country, rather than arguably the best team in the country.

Thursdays are a pain in the * night for European football. Just the way it is unfortunately. We are not the only victims of it to be fair.

Fair enough mate, I'm not having a go and far too tired to get into it. Feels like I've been talking about Deila non stop for days now.:smiley-laughing002:

Collins definitely * yo with his comments. I don't think the rumours of him being arrogant are entirely unfounded. Stuff like that should never get to the press. It's hugely unprofessional as well as detrimental to us.

Agreed mate. Too late and it's been like this on here non stop since Thursday night :smiley-laughing002:

Agreed with Collins as well, hasn't helped and * knows why he said it publicly, but what's done is done as daft as it was.

I don't think he is going anywhere. At least until another club wins the league, anyway.

I would be happy with a manager who wins the league every season, maybe a few domestic cups and is * in Europe. But this is the standard now, I suppose. We know we're going to win the league every year, so our focus should primarily be on the CL. But isn't that being big-headed, expecting us to get into the group stages every year, when we are a club known for selling our best players and replacing them with cheap scrap?
