Dunno if this has been mentioned,. but in the times article on this it says the reason he passed the work permit appeal is because he is "the best talent to ever come before the appeals panel"....

Well, regardless of whether he was or not, I am really excited about this kid. I hope things work out. From what I have been reading he should make a great addition to the Hoops.

Actually, this is not true. In Japan, the rules on out-of-contract transfers hold that a club must still pay a transfer fee to the former club and if they fail to do so, the paperwork for the transfer can be held up, preventing the player from playing for his new team. It is a "GENTLEMAN'S BUSINESS" sort of thing over here, so the signing club invariably offers something that is reasonable and the selling club accepts it.

Obviously, since legal systems differ, in Europe there is no LEGAL need to pay the fee. THeoretically JEF United could put delays in the way of the paperwork (Japan's FA has to sent the player registration docs) which could prevent Koki from playing until May or June, or even longer. In practice they would not do this, but BEWARE . . .

The only case that has ever occurred in which a player skipped out on his old club and stiffed them for a fee came when Koji Nakata moved to Olympique Marseille, from Kashima Antlers. Olympique insisted on "the letter of the law", and refused to give a Kashima a single yen. Kashima eventually stepped aside to avoid turning it into an ugly international incident, BUT, when Marseille started printing up shirts to sell in Japan, to their great surprise nobody would buy them. The Antlers fans were mightily * and refused to give their hard earned money to a team they saw as a theif. Then, when Marseille tried to line up a lucrative tour of the Far East, no J.League team would agree to play against them. The Tour fell through, Marseille lost what might have been a lucrative merchandise deal, and Koji Nakata's international career vanished off the face of the planet.

I am reasonably sure that Celtic are not so stupid. They will pay a fee, based on Japanese standards even though European law might say they dont have to. It will end up being a pittance anyway (Im guessing E500,000 or thereabouts), so there is absolutely no reason not to pay. It makes sense all around.

I have looked at you tube videos of Mizuno on the internet and he looks like a Naka but with more pace. I know that the videos were only highlights of him but I hope he is the player everyone says he is.

"We have a work permit and he wants to be here.
"I think it's a case of tying it up. His contract finishes at the end of January so I think Peter (Lawwell, Celtic's chief executive) is tying up the loose ends with his club.
"He (Koki) is just a pure footballer.
"Naka added a physical presence to his game when he came here and when you add that to his skill, you have Scotland's player of the year last year.
"We have missed him for the last two or three months but he is coming back now and if he (Koki) is half as good as Naka then we will have another cracking player."
