I just hope we make a very very very serious effort to get this guy, his skills are something else, and in dead ball situations he looks like a real steal at the price Reggina are quoting.

Here's hoping the Celtic board and Strachan manage to convince him that Celtic are a club who are going to show ambition in the coming years and looking to progress further in Europe, its players like this we should be looking at bringing to the club in the first place.

Another player i would like to see us try to sign would be that Modeste M'Bami from Paris Saint-Germain, could see him possibly replacing Neil Lennon in the centre of midfield in the future if we went for him.

Got to admit though, Strachan seems to know what he is doing and is shaping a team that is going to be a lot different from the one Martin O' Neill had.

    Hoops close in on Nakamura

Celtic are favourites to sign Japanese star Shunsuke Nakamura, according to his club Reggina.

The 27-year-old midfielder was quoted as saying that he preferred a move to Spain rather than Scotland.

But the Italian outfit believe that Nakamura will snub Deportivo La Coruna and Atletico Madrid to join Celtic.

Reggina press officer Daniele Rindone said: "Celtic and Reggina plan further talks either later today or early tomorrow.

"We are discussing a price between £2m and £2.75m and we are close to agreeing a fee.

"Our president Lillo Foti will speak with their chief executive (Peter Lawwell) and it is possible that they will come to an agreement for the player to join Celtic.

"There are also two Spanish clubs interested in signing the player - Deportivo La Coruna and Atletico Madrid - but I would say Celtic are in first place to sign him.

"We have a good working relationship with them and they would be our choice and they also appear to be the first choice of Shunsuke Nakamura.

"It will be very difficult for the move to go through by tomorrow because the player will have to agree terms but it is possible now that it will go through quite quickly."

Nakamura appeared set to turn down Celtic in favour of a move to the Primera Liga.

He was quoted as saying: "It would be fun to play in Spain as well after playing in Italy.

"I feel it's about time to make a switch after playing for the same club for three seasons.

"I must be careful to choose the team, because it is

important for me whether I can play in the games or not."

He said in the press that he would prefer to go to Spain so I can't see this deal happening.

    STRACHAN COUNTING ON NAKAMURA DEAL

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan is hoping to get a "yes" from Japanese star Shunsuke Nakamura from Reggina on Tuesday.

The Glasgow giants were on Monday put in pole position for his signing by his Italian club, although the 27-year-old midfielder was quoted as saying that he preferred a move to Spain rather than Scotland.

But the Italians believe Nakamura will snub Deportivo La Coruna and Atletico Madrid to join Celtic, and Reggina press officer Daniele Rindone said: "We are discussing a price between £2million and £2.75million and we are close to agreeing a fee."

Its a bit of a contradiction, as this report states that celtic are in pole position for the player and he will snub other teams for celtic. However he has said he wants to go to spain not the SPL?

    Let the * on commence[IMG]

It seems that he wants guaranteed first team football and both Spanish clubs resist to give such assurance. Let me quote "Nak" ;-)

Nakamura would be a great buy for Celtic because he's at the best point in his career and it would attract alot of attention from the far-east

plus it would * rangers off that we signed such a player:ynwacelti

If Hamburg can tempt Rafael van der Vaart, then I believe Celtic can tempt Nakamura.

Granted, the Bundesliga is a stonger league so in some ways it is a step up, but in every players mind European football is a big big factor too. Van Der Vaart is player intertoto instead of Champions League now. That is a step down

Celtic can offer Nakamura Champions League football every season, he's never had that before. A big step up!!

I wouldnt write off Celtic's chances. If we stump up the cash and offer the boy a decent wage and CL footy, he wouldnt say no easily...
