Horrible blunder but was good after..

Deffo a player here, no doubts for me that we can iron out his flaws..

Boyata is collosal in the air at times, more times than many the last few games.

He really does need to be more aggressive in the tackle though, especially when the attacker is coming towards him, he backs off too much.

That'll come with more experience though.

Awful awareness for their first goal. If that was efe he would be shot! Think he is still a bomb scare.

Wasn't his best game today but still rate him, got turned far to easy for the Hamilton goal. Also thought he bailed Blackett out on a few occasions.

    I see a player there.

Has some key defensive attributes. Solid in the air and strong in the tackle, it's easy to forget because he is 24 but the guy has barely played any football. It's effectively like chucking a much younger player in due to his experience.

    Agree with this..

His positional sense and tendency to dive into the tackle is consistent with a player who has not played a lot.

I really hope that's the case with his passing too, however don't think this will ever be a great attribute just needs to keep it simple. Play the easy ball and he'll be fine.

Brown seems to be dropping deep and picking the ball up from the defence to build our attacks. Where as last season Virgil and Denayer would bring it out.

And that's fine by me, defenders defending first and being in the correct position to combat counter attacks.

Think he'll get better and better just needs to relax a little and stick to what he's good at, defending and organising the defence.

Hopefully he'll strike up a partnership with Simunovic which will be good enough to compete at European level.

I'm the same. I think that could be a pretty good CB pairing. Also, he's not that bad at passing either. He def seems to be getting rid of the ring rust after not playing regularly for so long but I've seen some pretty intelligent passes from him in the league at least. Mostly though he needs to be more consistent with it but I'm confident we've won a pair of watches with him and Simu. :50:

I think he's been solid lately, there's a good defender there, he just needs to grow into the role a bit.

Even if he did go on to have a few more mares this season, I'd still be willing to give him another chance next year.

I've said this before I think but Kelvin Wilson in his first season was a different player to his second. It can happen.

Big Stubbs was the same & it did take Denayer a bit of time to get a grip. I always give a player until the second season as it can take the first to find their feet.

The above is one of the reasons i don't like having loan deals without an option to buy

I'm of the same opinion as all the above. Frustrating at the time of a mistake but good to see most (on here) recognising and willing to give a player (who looks talented on his game) time..

I'm guilty of it as well but sometimes we crucify player's too soon..

Denayer was a lot better on the ball though. It will be years until we get another defender of his quality.

I think we have been spoiled with those pair last year though.

We are unlikely to find a better, more rounded partnership than Denayer and VVD. Ball playing centre halfs are hard to pick up.

I'd be quite happy to see Simunovic as the ball player and allow Boyata to do the simple stuff. I think that's the way in which we will see the very best of him.

It's unfair to ask the guy to be a Van Dijk level ball player because he isn't. It's evident he is uncomfortable with that.

In saying all that, though, I don't actually think his passing is that bad. Just quite inconsistent.

think after he gets a full season under his belt * be a different player next year.the guys no really played football in a few years.he seems to score a bit for a defender which makes up for the odd blunder here and there.

Done well today. Could have had a goal and an assist as well.

He'll be a good player in a settled defence.

That was our 20th game this season and we've had 16 different defensive variations so far. That's * ridiculous.

Kind of hard not to be so unsettled when we had to replace both CB's and our marquee signing has been injured, as has Janko and Lustig at times as well.

He played well today, Commons should have buried his cracking through ball.
