Wolves and Celtic among clubs eyeing move for 28-year-old midfielder
    BY LEE CLARKE ⋅ MAY 28, 2015 ⋅ POST A COMMENT

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Celtic are eyeing a move for ex-West Bromwich Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu, according to FLW sources.

FLW understands Wolves and Celtic are keeping tabs on Mulumbu

Mulumbu was surprisingly released by the Baggies after six years at the Hawthorns with boss Tony Pulis looking to free up some funds for his own recruitment drive.

Wolves manager Kenny Jackett is desperate to strengthen his midfield and the physical presence of Mulumbu would make him a key addition to his squad.

The 28-year-old played 211 games for the Baggies and a move to fierce rivals Wolves would be a kick in the teeth for the Albion faithful who has seen the combative midfielder as a big fan favourite.

FLW understands along with Wolves, Celtic boss Ronny Deila is also in the market for someone of Mulumbu’s style, with the pull of Champions League football potentially a big attraction for the player.

The Scottish giants romped to the league title this season but were beaten in the early stages of qualification in Europe, although they did reach the first knockout round in the Europa League.

It is thought however, that the player likes the competitive nature of English football and a move to Wolves looks more likely at this stage.

Most likely a bullshit article but I'd take him in a second.

Aye, hes always been a really solid midfielder. Will probably be signed up by a Sunderland or Newcastle on about £45k a week.

Then again maybe hes went off the boil, not seen much of him lately.

Thought he was like 33 or something

He's a good player, I reckon he'll have offers from the EPL tbh

Can't think why they're releasing him, unless they're cutting back on wages. He's seemingly on £43k a week, but I'd have thought that was about an average wage for an established first-choice midfielder at a bottom-half EPL team. Maybe the arrival of Fletcher has seen him drop down the pecking order?

He's been great for a number of years down in the Premiership, so would be a very good signing for us. I don't think centre midfield is necessarily a priority for us though, with Brown, Bitton and Mulgrew, plus Johansen and Armstrong capable of playing there. Maybe Deila sees Mulgrew as a centre back next season, who knows!

Not really sure why West Brom are getting rid of Mulumbu though, so if the issue is wages then I can't imagine he'd come here. Hopefully the lure of winning titles and playing in the Champions League would get him in if Deila wants him.

Johansen and Armstrong cannot play there. Not effectively at the highest level, at least.

Mulumbus's a better holding midfielder than Mulgrew.

I would agree with all of that. Johansen and Armstrong are capable of filling a gap there at domestic level, but I wouldn't fancy going into a European game with either at centre midfield. Mulumbu would definitely make our squad stronger.

What a signing this would be, hope we get him, guess it's just wages and his ambition that matters, championship or champions league.

He's already claimed that he's not looking a move to the championship and wants to stay in the epl. Realistically, if he lowers his wage demands a bit, he should have no shortage of suitors down there.

this ones not gonna materialize for us.

He's a quality player, though you do feel maybe a team like Watford or Norwich might fancy him and he'd gladly stay in the PL.

Don't think we'll have a shot at him though he'd be a good signing aye. Need one more player for that central role. Wouldn't have him ahead of Brown or Bitton at present though and he'd be an expensive (wage wise) guy for rotation.
