No but it won't be for the want of trying.

We lack domestic competition and funds.

Don't think so, simply don't have the spending power.

I hope eventually he'll do what he did with Strømsgodset in Norway with us in Europe.

I'd much rather we continued to take games to opponents, defend from the front.

Sure we might lose goals this way but with a prolific striker we will also score them as well.

Even if we just incresed the wage budget to hold onto players for longer I think we'd do well in europe, still not enough to win the CL or EL though. Just think if we got to keep Hooper and Wanyama whilst holding on to Van Dijk, we'd definetly compete better in Europe

No chance in the current European structure.
What will happen there will be a European re-structure (Lawell has hinted at this) were there will be a rich mans, poor mans European cups which the rich leagues like EPL will get 6 entries in the rich tourney, and poor leagues like ours get two in the poor one.
Poor leagues will be us and Ireland and all the former Soviet bollocks. There will be qualifiers for each league like the current format to enhance competitiveness in retrospective leagues.
I know the marketing company (based in Verona) who are reaserching this format for UEFA. It's being driven by Sky, BT....so there will be far more European games.
Once established we will struggle to get involved with the rich as the SPL is would be in the bottom third.
There are so many top players from all over the world playing for teams like Spurs, Southampton that if they are involved in Europe more often the TV people will sell more viewing rights.
    * state of affairs but the change is coming within the next few years.
We may have a chance in the poor mans league to win it.

no one can ever know for sure what will happen tbh. but all I can say is for most of my life I was always told from everyone that you will never see a Scottish team in a European final ever again. well that worked out well

The only European trophy we could possibly win would be a friendly competition. I'd love to be as optimistic as some on here, but we seriously need to get real, and not carried away with ourselves. The only things that stop the possibility of winning the CL/EL is money and geography. If we were to move to the EPL, then, and only then would we have a chance. That possibility is incredibly unlikely to happen in the near future, as unfortunate as it is.

Benfica got to the final of the Europa League a couple of years ago after we knocked them out our CL group. Had they not been up against Chelsea, (who should have still been in the CL given the cost of their team) they probably would've won.

I think it's a possibility (very small albeit), especially with Deila's intelligence of the game.

That Benfica team contained the likes of Garay, Perez, Matic etc who moved on for huge money. They also had top young players like Salvio and Gaitan (can't remember if Markovic was there or not).

We don't have those kind of players here.

We still put them out the group though. Also no reason to say some of our players won't move on for big money such as Bitton, van Dijk and Johansen. If we keep the majority of these sorts of players and add some new signings, we could build a strong team
