I have no idea what this supposed Celtic class is meant to be. But for me Gary Caldwell is a good if not spectacular defender who has done a good job for Celtic overall since we bought him from Hibernian. He also at 25 still has his best years ahead of him.

there is no celtic class only celtic budget and alas caldwell falls into that
i personally dont think caldwell is up there with the mcgrains or mcnamaras or even morris but its the level we are at now:31:

    CALDWELL

Hi fellow Tims, I am new to this site and i hate to make my first post a moan. But, i cannae take any more of Calldwell in the team. I know he might be playing out of position ( if he has a good one ) but he can't tackle, pass or even header the ball. you have got to hope the ginger yoda will try to sign a few defenders in the January window to sort out our defensive problems. Anyway, feeling quietly confident about tomorrow night. Hail Hail....:bbpd:

In saying that i think Caldwell has done quite well overall at RB, i don't like him at CB as he makes to many errors and they are more likely to end up as goals in the centre.
That one a the weekend though, what was he thinking, at this point i think Caddis deserves a chance.
I would use him tomorrow though, his experience over Caddis should see him keep his place, i just pray he keeps himself composed.

thats not fair. apart from lisbon over a year ago he has always performed well. at the weekend he played quite well until what could be called a soft penalty was given (only a shove).

It was a penalty. No doubt whatsoever. Yet another pointless, reckless and clumsy challenge by a defender who makes more pointless, reckless and clumsy challenges than anyone I've ever seen.

:56: I think was mate, guy was barged over. Caldwell had no need to be near him and if he was half decent he wouldnt of commited such a stupid foul

Reminded me of the incident with Kyriakos at Tynecastle a few years ago when the linesman gave the penalty to the huns.

I think the reaction of the player definitely won Hearts the pen. Not too sure the contact was enough to make him react like that.

Having said that, if it were a Celtic player, we'd be screaming for it.

To start off in Caldwell's first 2years here I critised him as much as anyone, I really hated him and thought he was *, I couldn't understand why Strachan played him.

But I now realise Strachan could see Caldwell's potential because the guys solid as a rock now! Hes been our best defender by a mile in nearly every game this season. Especially when big Mick seems to hav hit a bit of bad form. His sliding tackles and last ditch tackles are brilliant, and the guys a tank! look at the size of him.

I think sum fans have to realise if a player has a bad game, bad month, or even a bad year it doesnt mean that play is *. Caldwell made me eat my own words, I accepted that and I now think the guy's great. Maybe some people should be less stubborn, even the media can admit it! and thats saying something!

As for JVOH someone said hes been * for weeks. McDonald could never do the job for Samaras that Big Jan does. Big Bad John said on Setanta that JVOH is great because he will win balls all day long, bring Sammy and others into play with little passes and flicks, being generally very un-selfish. But he also has a great goal record, specialy for that kind of player.

    Rant over.

Yes much better player now than what he was at the begining of last season, best player towards the end of last and has basicly got better every game.
