Pretty poor game to watch really. You're RM and LM need to track back more. Cafu was going forward and getting the ball whenever he felt like. Your Left side definitely needs improving. What's the difference between last year and this year? An unfit Milan side playing at about 50% dominated the match for huge amounts of time where as last year at the San Siro it was an even game. And apparently you had improved? Although TBH it looked more like it was Strachans fault rather than the teams, seemed you were playing for a draw even though the manager and players for Milan said they wanted a win. All the best anyway. Hope you get a good draw for the last 16.

Wouldn't mind having Boruc next year to replace that idiotic liability that is Dida.

lol you really will never give him credit will you? Did he put your puppies in a blender and drink the Beagle juice while evily cackling as it ran down his demonic ginger face:56:. How can you argue with his record. He achieved that with a lot of bargain players (some very limited) so tactics have been a very important part of it. Its not pretty but he has made us invincible at home and increasily close to getting points away with his chesneynatio tactics. There is noone who could do better with that group of players.

Well to be fair to me Keltoi you asked me to lay off him until the end of the season and, for you, I agreed to that. Actually I will give him a bit of credit. Because as you put it rather well the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I accept this because we are not very good and yet we/he still get results. I'm being honest here - I thought we were * last night.

Also Keltoi - 'It's not pretty' - do you accept that we are not an attractive football playing team. Because this has been a constant argument in his favour - that we play better football than we did under long ball O'Neill.

I would agree in the CL we are very negative indeed but I think thats realism because we were the poorest side technically in our group and probably in the poorest 20% in the entire competition. We would be murdered if we opened up against most of these team. That realism of our limitations is something I think is to WGS's credit. I do, however, feel that most of the time we play much more attractive passing football in the SPL than we did under MON. There were games when the power was nicely balanced by the skill under MON and it was impressive (mainly big games) but it was torture to watch against wee teams sometimes and we were very hard on the eye in his last year or two in the SPL especially when Lubo and Henke went.

I know what you mean. It was painful watching us rattle 5 or 6 past these teams.:97:

You don't seem to have a very high opinion of the quality of team we have just now. And that is my gripe. We are very ordinary. Last night our retention of possession was absolutely * dreadful, we constantly gave the ball away cheaply and we are so anxious and desperate when we get the ball that we hurry everything. I felt Milan operated at 60% of capacity and we still can't match them.

I agree with that and I'm blissfully happy that we made it through! it's a great achievement and WGS deserves some praise. However I still think he needs to improve his tactics. It can't be true that we have lost 3 away games again and failed to scored as well. Our amazing home record speaksfor itself, so does the away record unfortunately. We ain't supposed to win the cup, but if we are able to beat everyone at home, I expect us to score at least on opponent pitches. All of a sudden one of the records will stop, if we fail to win every CL home game and continue our away struggle, we will stand no chance next time. I hope we will battle for a positive away result in the next round and if we reach it, we can beat everybody at paradise and anything is possible...

Within the bounds of realism (i.e. we will never match the Euro elite or top five EPL teams for transfers) I think our quality players who consistently bring a lot to the team are Boruc, Broon, Hartley, Aidan, Naka, Skippy and maybe Mick. That is a good core of seven players. When on form I would be tempted to add Naylor to that because there are not many better LBs that we could realistically hope to buy. So thats eight. JVOH should be there too because he is a proven Dutch international striker but he has 'done a magic' and lost it. The others like JJ and Donati are only so-so and will never have us raving. So we only have about 8 players who play consitently to a high standard in the whole squad and often a couple of them are injured.

We have to clear dead wood like Magic, Deeks, Bobo and probably Killen and JVOH (if he does not improve) and add a minimum of three or four quality players to make sure we can play to a high level every week (even that is a very flimsy squad). We have the core on which to build a far better team but need a few really good players to arrive. How many times have we been a few players away from a really great team but the board have no made the money available? I am not talking a fortune but I think we need 12 million to make that a great team.

The most important thing is that Celtic is through! The match was awful, and that * Inzaghi scored again. But nevermind that.

Hail Hail We're in Second Phase! ;)

Ok it's gone, :50: both teams are in again. :icon_mrgreen:

Well, Celtic tactic surprised me a lot: ok to defend, ok to play for a draw,
    but come on!
This is a clear sign of the Celtic terrible fear when you play abroad.

Simply , it must be a problem that doesn't exist, that's the solution.
This situation brings me back at the McCoist's time in Europe.

Yesterday night, according to me, Strachan should have change better, no way, Sno and VoH aren't the right players for Celtic in CL away matches.
Why not a faster runner on the flanks? Especially on the Cafu's?
Fast counter break and a better cover on your left external side,
here everyone said it (and saw it ).

I disagree with you, or better, I have not your sureness about Strachan fault: I think it has been the result of a lack of experience in some of your players (it seemed they played with the brakes on): take a look at the number of unforced kicks by your last defenders instead of controlling the ball, in order to force and run more my "old" players.
Celtic should harass much more as a team:
this is the lesson to study for your next match
(Real? Inter? Chelsea?) if you want to go ahead.

About our king of the european scorers, he hasn't a particular skill,
but he always is in the right position at the right time
and he has an incredible killer instinct ... :56:

I think it's enough to forget his mistakes:
he is super, he is Filippo 63 Inzaghi :bbpd: ciao orthodox_celt

It was about 15 mins before he scored I think. Headed the ball sideways into Boruc hands and then looked to see if he was offside, which he wasn't.

    Boruc - top quality

Broon - has started well, could become excellent

    Hartley - decent pro

Aidan - at last has started to deliver the goods, will hopefully develop in to a good pro,

Naka - does some things brilliantly, but sometimes he is a passenger, if we are up against it we are basically playing with ten men

Skippy - is doing well, works hard, will never be top drawer

Mick - honest pro, will never be top drawer, could improve with quality CB beside him

    Naylor - no bad

For me mate we have one top quality player and that is Boruc.
