London's police force has been found guilty of endangering the public over the shooting dead of a man officers mistook for a suicide bomber. The Metropolitan Police broke health and safety laws when they pursued Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes on 22 July 2005, a jury decided.
The Met's commissioner Sir Ian Blair said he would not be standing down.
The Old Bailey jury said police chief Cressida *, who led the operation, bore "no personal culpability".
Ms *, now deputy assistant commissioner of the force, had been accused by prosecutors of failing to keep control of her officers.
The Met has been fined £175,000 and ordered to pay £385,000 in costs.

The real joke is that the fine will be met with taxpayers money.
In short they're picking our * pockets chaps.

As to the circumstances that led to this farce IMHO no charges should ever have been bought against the Old Bill.
They shot the geezer in the genuine belief that he was a terrorist possibly tooled up with a suicide belt and did the only thing possible when the fella got up on his toes and legged it.

Shoot first ask questions later boys.

Look at the guy that got dun coming out the pub with the table leg. The policy is flawed and will always result in mistakes. Life ending mistakes:54:

The geezer with the chair leg incident was a prize * up and no error but completely different to the Menezies affair.
If memory serves somebody grassed the fella to Old Bill for carrying a shooter and when they challenged him in the street he refused to drop the percieved weapon and started raising it so Old Bill gave him the good news.
Poor * was as * as a sack if I remember rightly.

To be honest gun crime is so prevelant nowadays that barely a weekend passes without hearing shots round here (East London)
In fact I've just taken a few to the chest as I'm typing this.
    Tough * we English mate:86:

Similar to an incident in the Gorbals a few years ago when a guy was walking about with a golf brolly and a jacket draped over it as though it was a gun. Police marksmen shot the guy, but he lived. I saw that guy and it looked like a gun to me, so it is a hard task for the police when it comes to quick decision making.

"Quick decision making" That's the key phrase and no error.
These firearms boys were given the heads up that Menezes was a murderous threat to the public and to themselves.
What were they supposed to do eh? Tap him on the shoulder and politely ask to see his suicide belt?
    Do me a * favour.
I just hope some of the mugs that wouldn't have the arseole to pick up a gun let alone kill a man and yet insist on castigating these firearms officers dont get blown to * on the transport system of London or Glasgow for that matter because the Old Bill showed reticence to intervene because of this total waste of taxpayers wedge.
