    Sadly, his bonus is based against achievable targets that he has clearly met; as such he is perfectly entitled to take this bonus.

    However, there is something inherently wrong in the targets he is being set if he is entitled to receive full whack over a period of time that (and this is pretty much a copy / paste from living wage thread) has seen downsizing in quality of manager and playing staff, to the extent we have seen a 15+M loss via CL. And let's face facts, last year's Karagandy episode was a stark warning for anyone with an iota of foresight. Not heeded.

    In addition, 1 cup win over the last 3 years, and an over-reliance on the loan system that leads me to believe that for all the fanfare over the Wanyamas of this world, they have realised their fingers have been burnt too much by the supposedly dream-like scouting system in place.

    In short, his targets must be heavily weighted in off-field performance, which is why the notion of him trousering such a massive bonus is particularly galling, truth be told.

    Lawwell is one of the best Executives in the Sport, I may get angry at him but seeing as we are in the top 3 among European Clubs in terms of Financial stability it shows that he is doing at least something right

    That being said 1 million pounds is way too much for a an Executive of any kind unless he literally is * out Strikers

    Honestly yes he earned it but cmon pete if you lost 20 grand we could pay living wage

    We don't actually know what he is there to do in terms of bonus targets, as we haven't seen his contract. However, the job of any CE of a football Club is surely to achieve success within reasonable parameters both on and off the field.

    I would argue that the last 12-18 months he has failed in terms of on-field achievements. As such, I agree that he must be within the parameters of achievement to warrant his bonus, purely because of the fact he has received said bonus. However, my thoughts are that these parameters must be poorly conceived, as on-field performance over the period has best been categorised as "distinctly average" while the tight pocket ethos has potentially cost the Club 15+M.

    How that represents good performance I will never know.

    EDIT - I would also add - without proof - my personal belief that contract weighting will be vastly to his benefit as a direct result of the power he holds within the Club. He is virtually untouchable, and thought of as some form of deity.

    Well, last year we hit our targets (league title and CL qualification). If he gets a bonus this year, he must know where Desmond keeps the bodies.

    In terms of on field achievements, it's like rewarding failure in my opinion. We constantly hear from both Lawwell and sections of our support how we can't compete with the English Premier League, yet we seem to be competing very well with the EPL when it comes to the CEO's wage packet.

    I do agree to an extent - but CL is the proof of the pudding, and it was nearly a disaster (Karagandy) - as a result of a downsizing policy, the extent of which was instigated at CE level.

    Performances in CL were also a shambles, to be honest.

    Then we take domestic cups - dire. And while league form put a plaster over some of the wounds (especially after league performance the year before which was average at best,) it was in a 1-horse race.

    As such, I still take issue with the existing target range set - and the bonus receiveed thereafter. Plus, to be honest, I am not overly enthused at target achievement in the first place.

    Problem lies in the contract, without doubt. But I say again that I disagree 100% with anyone saying the 12 month period on the field was a success. And on the field should be a pretty essential measure of the CE's performance.

    I would add, to downsizing, money spent on "prospects" and the unproven as well - in a transfer policy in terms of incomers that has flattered to deceive; especially in the forward ranks.

    That too, in terms of blame, I would lay at board level.

    But undoubtedly managerial responsibility as well as player ineptitude plays its part. As an example, Muoyokolo (spelling) starting against Karagandy was idiotic.

    However, my point also extended to group stages, and the vast depreciation in standard from one year to the next; that was predominantly down to downsizing - of that I have little doubt.

    Irrespective - even if we disagree about the extents to which blame is attributed, some blame lies at CE level. As such, deserving of 100% bonus? Not in my world.

    I don't really care what he gets paid, but for Celtic to not pay a decent wage to their employees and to then pay a bonus that large is pretty disgusting. I understand that he brings in more money than a cleaner would, but some things are not about money and are instead about what is right.
